Antec Aria case socket 775 - what cooler
«

I'm thinking of upgrading, and I'm wondering what CPU coolers will fit in an Antec Aria case. I have a Zalman 7000 cooling an Athlon XP 3200 in mine at present, which is fine. It would probably suffice for a Core 2 Duo, but not a quad. Has anyone managed to fit a high performance cooler in this case?

Should be more than fine for a Q6600. At worst it's better than the stock Intel HSF...

Thanks Moose. I just wondered about noise. I can usually run the Zalman at a very quiet 1300 - 1600 rpm, which gives an unloaded temperature of between 35 and 40 degress c (higher when gaming obviously, but noise under load isn't an issue). The AMD has a TDP of 67W, and the mid range Core2 Duos come in at 65W. The q 6600 is rated at 105W, so I wonder whether I would be able to keep the Zalman throttled back as easily when unloaded.

Well, surprisingly, a Zalman 8700 fits - but only just. Some of the fins may be in contact with the bottom of the PSU, but there doesn't appear to be any vibration noise. Too early to conclude on performance - I need to let the Artic silver bed in for a few days.
I'm still running with an Athlon XP 3200, but will upgrade after Christmas and, who knows, a Penryn quad might not be out of the question.
