Hi all...
Craig veery nice project, you can be proud about it...

well, what kind of cd/dvd drives did you use?
i also call a rogue as my own and want to do some modifications... as you surely know, the rogue only have two 5.25" slots... thats not much... so, i would do something like you, but i need the right drives... i haven't found anything like this yet

thanks
dethrall

Thanks man!

The drives are Pioneer KVR-06's.  They are hands down, the best optical media drives I've ever used, regardless of form factor.  Good luck!

I'm not sure of any European suppliers, but I'll take a look for you.

Craigbru, I have to give you massive props on this build, a friend linked me to it today and I gotta say I can't get enough. I don't agree with everything you did, but you log was great. Someone who actually read through part of it (sorry I just skimmed, wanted to get to the rest of the pics :X ) said you were at nVision, where were you seated?

Thanks for the kind words!  It was definitely one hell of a build.  Even now, I wish I would have done a few things differently myself, but you live and learn.  I indeed was at Nvision.  I was sitting in row D1.  The Rogue was there for a short while, and then it was moved over to the CPU magazine display area.  I plan on being back next year with a new build!

Well, I'm not quite ready to start yet, but I can give you a preliminary concept sketch, and feature rundown...

Introducing Duality...

So, what makes this thing so special?  Well, for one, there will be 3 separate systems in here.  A mATX board for the main system, a pico-ITX for system monitoring and control, and laptop components that will act as a dedicated game server. There will also be a 16 port gigabit switch, dual 120.3 radiators in separate loops, projective capacitive touchscreen and 12.1" LCD, room for 5 3.5" hard drives, and a pair of SSD's, all hot swappable, and the ability to swap any part in less than 30 seconds.

Those features are just a taste of things to come, and that certainly doesn't cover it all.  Stay tuned!

Nope, I wasn't high, just inspired.  Well, that, plus a little engineering luck...   :cheese:

After I was done with the Rogue, I'd decided to have all my future cases much easier to work one.  That's one thing that became a priority.  Also, that 30 second part change, includes the watercooled parts as well.  Both the video cards and CPU will be watercooled via separate loops.

All that sounds amazing Craig, I can't wait to see your work again!

Just an FYI... for those of you that may be interested, the Rogue is currently one of the finalists in the Mod of the Year competition at bit-tech.  There's only 4 hours of voting left, so stop on by and pick your favorites!  (Even if the Rogue isn't one of them!)

Thanks!  I'm not sure if I'll win or not.  There are some great rigs, and they are literally within a vote or two at the top.  I may sell the Rogue.  I always think I'll hold on to my projects, and then decide to move on anyway.  I don't think I'd build another though.  It's too work intensive to think about starting again.  If I did sell, it would be without the cpu, mb, video cards, and hard drives, but all else could stay.  That would include the peltier and block, both psu's, and all watercooling components.

Well, like anything, what it's worth, is pretty hard thing to nail down.  If I wanted to add in my labor, assuming I worked hourly, it would be worth around $12,000.  If I just add in materials, and the cost of hardware in the case, then it's closer to $3000.  So, it really comes down to how much my time is worth, Lol.

The basement is 90% completed.  I'm actually working on the bathroom right now, and after that, will be my office/shop.  Of course I'm impatient.  I'm really looking forward to having a dedicated work space!

Just a nice workshop.  Workbenches all the way around, and great lighting.  I need someplace to store all my tools, and parts.  I'm also looking at setting up something to take video of me working.  Lol.  It's also going to be easy to clean.  Aluminum dust gets everywhere!
