Hi guys...well as title suggests i want to build a 100% passive system for downloading through the night. Now i haven't looked into this at all and thought it might be a good idea to make a post and get everyones thoughts and ideas . I was thinking along the lines of a little ITX system, reason for this is because i know they use those little psu's which are generally passive, so i figured it was a good place to start...plus the fact i dont really need much processing power. Due to virgin/ntl trafic managing during peak times it means my max connection comes when i am asleep. So my Lanbox and main gaming rig are to loud for me to sleep comfortably in my room.
Now the other idea i had thought of was to build a file server and have all the files downloaded to a folder there. This would allow me to physically just download them on the ITX rig and then i can pick them up at either my gaming rig or lanbox which both have allot of cpu power. I generally have 2 or 3 winrars going at one time ASWELL AS a few quickPARs, converting avi's to vob's, playing music, general web surfing. So i heavily multi task! So quad core is pretty much a must for when I'm sorting things out.
The other reason i said ITX is because i am strongly considering going with a Mozart TX as my next case...so i could maybe encorperate the ITX rig within that. Although being completly 100% passive is my goal, so i will go mATX or whatever and just build into a seperate case if needs be.
So come on lads Input please links...product recommendations etc etc. I am not one to shy away from modding so please suggest anything you think of no matter how extreme it sounds....I was thinking about maybe making a case that acts as one big heatsink...maybe look at making my own cpu block that has heatpipes coming from it and bonded to the case....ideas ideas ideas
