Hi everyone !

I'm new on this forum and not computer expert !

I bought a IBM M52 8212-1SF desktop computer at a public auction and I'd like to know if I can fit it in a tower case ?

I did some research for the form factor and just found it's SFF.  I think SFF includes many form factors but which one do I have ?

Is it possible to fit this computer in a new tower (don't have one yet to try it out) or I'm dreaming ?!

Ho yes, I just need more space to add cards, hard drive etc.  That's why I want to change the case.

SFF just means Small Form Factor - smaller than a normal tower. It doesn't tell you anything specific. I'm not familiar with this specific machine, but it should be doable if you are willing to do some work and cut some stuff up.

Yes I know it means small form factor, but I guess SFF includes many "real" form factors.  I did search to find which one I have it but no result.

The motherboard is : IBM 41X0921  if someone can help.

Its usually much easier to go from a smaller case to a larger case than to go from a large case to a small Smiley One thing most OEM SFF setup do not use standard components for mother board and power supplies  it should not be too hard to mount the mother board just need to setup new mounting hold offs. However changing the power supply might be a little harder another option would be to just replace the power supply with a standard atx power supply which should mount in the new case without any problems.

Ok so I will not find a case with stand offs that fit my board ?  Any case will be ok ?  How can I make sure slots will be at the right places ?

If you have the motherboard on your desk and you can measure it, it might be easier to find the ATX form factor specification (its not too hard to find, a little bit of google).  The ATX spec will give you dimensions for things like the back plate location, stand off locations and expansion slot locations.  I googled your motherboard and the motherboard seems to extend past the back plate connectors...  this space in traditional ATX towers is occupied by the powersupply, but check yourself.

I have worked on a lot of these IBM SFF units (hundreds).  These units use a riser card for the PCI/PCIX/AGP.

I just cant see the benifits of puttin the logic board in a tower case (or even if you can get it to fit).  you would not be able to add any expansion cards if in a tower.
