Hi all,

Stumbled across this site the other day when I was looking for information about the Silverstone SG01... very informative site...

Anyway, I recently was given a Silverstone SG01 silver form factor case that a mate wasn't using...  I want to build a cheap htpc using the case, I have a basic idea of the hardware to get, except for the dvd-rom/writer? Strange question to ask I know... but it is to do with the colour of the case... ie silver... putting in a black for beige burner will look just plain ugly!!

So i was wondering what other people have done with their silver cases? Can u get silver looking burners? or can you buy a face panel that acts as a facade for the burner like what Antec did with the cude case? http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=15130

Any ideas would be great to make it look a little nicer! Smiley Thanks

Welcome to Sudhian, spytek

I have seen some silver colored burners in the past. IIRC made by pioneer or maybe sony.
There is also silver paint, though I don't know how to make it look professional.

Hmm... It strikes me you could mod the blank bay cover. Cut the brackets from the sides of the bay cover, maybe some plastic from the front of the dvd tray then attach the cover to the dvd tray with glue or mounting tape... Granted, you would have to find alternate ways to eject it other than the eject button.

Good luck Smiley

Thanks for the reply!

After looking at Sony burners again... they do have a few that are white with a silver tray plate... getting closer...

I stumbled across the LIAN LI PC-C-01 Aluminium Universal CD-ROM/ DVD Cover Silver exactly what i was looking for... but only for lian-li cases Sad

Coolmaster have a "universal" Alloy Front Bezel AFP-U02, it looks cheap and thin, it sticks to the burner... so i would need a burner that is square and flat.

I'm tempted to get the LIAN LI one and see if I can get it to fit into the SG01... they are only about $20 (AUD).

Sorry for the late reply... but painting your burner silver is very easy!

At your hardware store, they have a special silver paint for painting radiators.  It works like magic, leaving a non-smooth surface that matches brushed aluminum very well.

Well, IMHO anyways.

My burner came with tan and black bezels that I could change out, so painting was easy.. just paint the bezel and front of the tray separately.  Don't worry about the insides or the tray... you never look at it anyways.

Here's a pic, you can see it on the right-hand comp:

retail silver drives that i've seen in the past always looked like crap as it was just silver plastic and looked naff.

either get something like a coolermaster aluminium bezel or use nice paint Smiley

i'd personally be quite interested in modding the bay cover onto the drive
