Roj, VIA is  crap, I never had any probs w/ their chipsets, but that's crap! True!

Sorry. I drunk too much.

That above isn't irony, it's sarcasm. But I really drunk too much.

Nikos, no one (me at least!) is stating the via's the best. What i only defend, is that all have their uses, and some users come in here shoutting that they are having problems with via, and via is the fault, as if all the others were perfect, except for via!
Damn, i even saw a guy with insulting via, because of his system's crashes, and after someone said that his system was Intel, he replied "Ooops, i'm sorry!"

The fact is that, most problems here are user related. I f u go to a Intel forum, u will same the same user mistakes  see here, and there, they blame Intel!

ain't it fun?!

Via is far from perfect, but, so are the others...

I just wanna say that I believe that AMD chips are much more better than VIA chips.
Everybody here says that KT266 has problems.
So why did Via released it? You know I'm kind of an advanced user (more or less).
I built my own systems for the last 4-5 years. The problem is that there are a lot of novice VIA users that don't know how to solve their VIA related issues (even though they are fewer than some months ago).
Why don't they put a sticker on the boxes saying that they are incompatible with new nvidia chips or even creative.
Why customers get to know everything after purchase?
Is that fair?
Should a "world Class" company release bad quality chips (like KT266)?
They say they fixed the probs by releasing KT266A. So do I get one free (I own KT266)?
Of course not.
I am not here to say that VIA is crap cause it isn't, but I definetely believe that they release their products too quickly without testing them carefuly.

Yes, i agree with u to a certain extend. I like Via, because it lets u take full control of your system, u can adjust virtually every Bios setting, while Intel doesn't, they prefere giving their chipsets an X-files look.

I agree that yes, there should be some kind of information that, if u buy Via, u should have some more knowledge on how to setup systems, something like: Newbies for Intel, more Experienced if they choose they can have Via.

Of course, this is also a bit ridiculous, because it also depends on the brand used... An ASUS board is often easier to achieve stability, than a no brand Board... And if u buy generic ram and are unlucky, be it Intel or Via, you'll allways have problems...

It simply ain't that simple...

U said that Via should announce incompatibilities? I don't know, it depends... I never had any incompatibility, and i have 4 Via systems: KX133, KX133A, KT133A, KT266A. All from Asus, except for the first. And the first was the only that wasn't much stable... (It was matsonic!)

Via has little control over incompatibilities, most of them are problems with Vender BIOS designs, not the Via chipset.  For instance, the oft-mentioned geForce compatibility issues were due to poor signal strength on one of the voltage lines, this was not the fault of the chipset, but of the board design.  There is little Via can do about that, and the issue affected a few Intel based boards as well, not just Via.

True chipset incompatibilities are pretty rare, even the 686B/SBLive issues were Creative's fault, not Via's.
