It's horrible, I can't understand it.
I have a Gs33G5m with a quad 6600 and 2 gb of ram. I've tried several live cd, Ubuntu, mythbuntu, debian, elive and they don't run .
The pc boots with them inside, I can even choose language, but then, after few seconds, neither of them boot.

Is shuttle so hard with linux? Probably I'm missing something. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

i have exactly the same issues atm.

either linux will just goto a command line where i'm stuck or it'll lack screen regardless of resolution or just reboot. I'm not on a shuttle

i've recently spent the last 3 days, every bit of spare time really, trying to just install suse 10.3 regardless of hdd, method, online updates, etc etc, i cannot get it to install properly. only way i can boot in is to get into the full installation and then tell it to boot a previously installed thing. then the moment i restart it'll die somehow or X will jsut fail. it's not that developers don't make games for linux, it's that linux plain sucks if you're not a guru to start with

I had something like this on an old laptop no longer with me and from memory the work around is along the lines of
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?s=36a6c2d7b0845dd17991a428e3cf3370&p=4666604&postcount=9

I used the pf6 option when Ubuntu is booting to add noapic nolapic and when once running then edit and save the kernel line in  /boot/grub/menu.lst

Although I no longer need to use these options I have included them in the example below.

Code:
title        Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic
root        (hd0,4)
kernel        /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=2a3c528b-535d-4d3f-bb94-b11182d8282b ro quiet splash noapic nolapic
initrd        /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic
quiet

Hardware problem can sometimes be hard to track down and solve.
Hope this helps.

Try booting the CDs with "irqpoll" kernel option. That made Fedora 9 boot after an install.

Thanks,

Im posting a bit late but have you tried pclinuxos 2007?  Im running the livecd on many older and newer pcs with few issues. TinyMe 2008 is also a good distro and if you are looking for a more features mandriva 2008 is quite good as a live cd.
Also look at Linux Mint...

Speaking to the first poster....

You just need to find the right distro.
My old Shuttle runs every live cd I throw at it, but it won't install any Mandriva based distros.

If you haven't tried Mepis, it is a Debian based distro with excellent hardware detection.

I've had major, major problems with my IDEQ 200N (not a shuttle, sorry Wink ) running liveCDs.

One of the only two I've gotten to run *and* install was Linux Mint.

Happily, it's (IMO) a very nice distro, easy to keep updated and set up compiz. Whee!

Try Sabayon or Mandriva, they tend to be more up to date with newer hardware.
