Is it going down the pan?

Most of the time I find the site is either inaccesible, or it has a database error, of I can read a post but not reply...

What's the truth behind this? It seemed to kick off around the time when Reflex left... is this something to do with "pulling" his posts?

I can say that I've experienced the same errors. "Database error" is the most common for me. Sometimes the site takes forever to load.

There have been some.. MAJOR.. issues with the site that's hosting our database. We're apparently now sharing hardware with another high-traffic site, among other issues, and if they're getting hammered, we get timeouts and errors.

As frustrating as it is for y'all, well... it's just as frustrating for the admin staff, who're largely helpless beyond sending "It's happening AGAIN" messages to the hosts.

But it's been noticed and is being worked on.

I would have moved to another hosting company a long time before now. By the time they get it sorted there will be a handful of regular posters left.

I am sure it's playing  havoc causing the low numbers in the forms as far as  posting. Sure it's having the same effect on the front page as well. As rrussell said it has come to the attention of the uppers on they are aware of the situation.

You and me both, man.

Sadly, we ain't the ones running the joint.

The irony is that they only recently moved TO this host, only to discover that it's not quite all it was cracked up to be.

I visit the site about once a week now, the traffic is so infrequent that's all I really need to do to catch up with everything thats going on.

Vorlorn, Reflex's post's to my knowledge are not being removed by anyone. Rocky promised that he would remove them but nothing happened.

Ah ok, I wondered if they were somehow connected.  It's amazing I've actually managed to post now, site access for me, is beyond dire.

I suppose once the site has no traffic, then it won't matter which host they are with...

The person who control's everything is Jasper, and he has other priorities right now. I guess if everyone emailed him then something might get done, I can assure you Babar is doing all he can to rectify the situation.

I'm sure he is Tino, but it's been going on for far too long - so no one should be surprised if it ends up going down the pan.

I don't disagree with you there Vorlon, Sudhian has been going down the pan for a long time now tho. Although I think this could be the straw that brakes the camels back as it were....

Agreed. Nowadays it is so bad that i open only the topics on the main page that i do want to read rather than browsing around and reading whatever catches my eye

It's too bad, really. I mean, I hate to be a big downer, man, but I can't argue. We're working to increase interest and traffic, but it doesn't mean a whole lot if you can't get to the site in the first place, ya know?

I know Babar definitely has. He's about as frustrated as the rest of us, from my understanding.

Tino hit the nail on the head, though - it sounds like Th' Cap'n has other priorities afoot at the moment, being a campaign year and all, so Sud is taking the backseat.

I have also found the site to be almost unusably slow.
I also get the following error when trying to upload an Avatar
Code:
The form you submitted contained the following errors

    * A problem was encountered while attempting to upload your file

Return to Previous Page

Regarding the slow site. Do you moderators have access to the control panel. Perhaps you could do a backup of the forum and move the site over yourself to a different host?

Babar does, however it would be a cost issue. Who is going to pay for the site? As Jasper pay's for it and any money from advertising goes straight to him. I know I would'nt like to pay for something and someone else get the money from advertising...

Can't the google ads on the new hosted site be redirected to an account for whoever pays for the site?

I wish they could, it would also be classed as a hostile takeover, I would assume. In fighting is the last thing we need on the Moderation/Admin team. There has been to much of that of late, admitedly alot of that was due to me...

In the main I give up now, reading and posting on the forum - it's worse than the days I had a 4800bps connection in the 90's.

If anyone setups another similiar forum, I'll move quite happily to it.....

I understand the nature of the beast, ie technical problems etc, but this has been going on for months.

It is fast!

I wonder if the "other site" that's hosted at the same location finally got moved?

I'm finding intermittent still.

Occassionally it'll be fast, then under a false premise I'll attempt a post just to find it practically stops!  I can't believe how it can be this poor, especially after all this time.
I do get slowness on a couple of other forums, but it's consistent etc. On here I can hit the submit post reply, walk away from the PC and when i return after some period of tgime, the post is still sitting there un-entered to the forum.

I have to admit that I have never not been able to post on here yet, often get DB errors when I try and view the forums but nothing more than that. Oh and the fact I'll open a thread and then come back about 20mins later as it should of opened by then.
