Hi.

My aging 210P which is now used by the children for general surfing and light game playing is sick. The PSU has a pronounced electrical burning smell.

I’m not taking any chances and it won’t be plugged in until it is replaced.

The current PSU is the standard Enhance one.

Questions:

1.    Has anyone got a suitable one to sell? Or even an entire chassis (though if the entire box it would have to be cheap). I’m in the UK.
2.    As a temporary measure can I remove the PSU and plug in a standard ATX one? Obviously I realise it won’t fit in the case but I could have it external. Does the 210P use any proprietary connectors a standard PSU doesn’t have?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, "You'd have to take a look" is my answer to the proprietary connector thing. I can't imagine why they would, though - it would just open them up to VERY angry customers who tried to revive a system by doing just what you're thinking about. (And which you'd think would be an easy thing to test...)

I assume you've checked ebay?

Meantime, why not just open the case and get some canned air, and clean the PSU out?  Maybe that'll rejuvenate it in the short term.

Hey, this place seems to ship to the UK - but I didn't get prices.

Good luck,

Thanks.

$56.78 = £32.16 but I guess shipping would be expensive. The cheapest I can find in the UK is £37 ($66).

Which isn't bad, but I'm wondering whether spending money on the old iDeq might be better spent on an upgrade...

In case anyone else is wondering, a standard ATX PSU does work as there are no non-standard connectors. The only minor point is that the molex to the hard drive juts out more the original (was it right angled?) it is tricky to get the side on.

while the connectors are the same, no standard sized psu will work. the original psu that came with the 210p is about half the size of a regular psu.

It does work perfectly, it's just external to the case!

time to dismantle clean and repair =D fun times to come

this what i would and often do
always keep an eye out for bulging capacitors discoloration on wires circiut boards resistors etc also those classic bugs(like literally its nice and toasty in a computer =D)
totally dismantle it blow out behind the face plate , around the drives or cage clean the heat sink(s) wash in water if need be  new artic silver ceramigue thermal coumpound (artic silver 5 is capacitive and doesnt have enough of an advanage) if there is flat ide cables throw them out reroute round/sata/psu cables out of the way and tie after re-install
open the PSU, ya could do this first lol disassemble clean check. just did a post mordem on a on a LC psu i swapped out on a customers's machine as i recall LC was intel(not amd) approved and has 3 bad caps cleaned my old TTGI 550watt(600 peak) with 14cm(5 1/2 inch) fan AMD approved and ran 24/7 for many years and 100% good
just blowing around inside to case door wont do it
ps warm the can air in luke warm water after a while also if you have bad caps yoou can increase the voltage rating with no ill effects ie. replace a 10v 1000uF with 16v or even a 50v the larger size if it fits will disapate the heat better

duh! and that totally defeats the purpose of having a SFF machine

try fitting one inside and see how far you get

Yah but it's very much in keeping with inexpensively prolonging the life of an aging machine instead of dropping big bux on a whole new rig :cheese:

(been there, done that, bought the t-shirt...)
