Is there any way to override whatever it is on MCE that won't allow me to upgrade it?

The install is kinda screwed, but I really don't want to do a fresh installation, but first
try an upgrade (XP Pro, or whatever) to see if that fixes it. I've a ton of games installed
for my children, and don't want to lose all their settings...
