Whassat? Dead Space? I'm still paying off "Spore" Actually I think my next game will probly be "Force Unleashed" for Wii, which will mark my 3rd Wii game ever purchased. (RE4 and then Rayman: Raving Rabbids 1 were the other two...) I'll probably get Dead Space when I see it in a bargain bin and think, "OH yeah, I remember wanting to play that!" Such is the gaming life of the dad of two small kids...

Is it less "jump out of the closet" than Doom 3?

farcry 2 seems pretty good, fire propagation is confusing, very nicely done. even a lowly e2180 seems to run along just fine

Is it less "jump out of the closet" than Doom 3? Yeah there is less of that. I remember something bursting through a stairway in doom 3 and I was cursing about it breaking the rules of videogames. But you still get the OH GOD WHAT THE F*** WAS THAT SOUND F****** S*** WHERE THE F*** IS IT I CAN'T SEE OH F*** ITS KILLING ME WHERE THE F*** IS IT COMING FROM OH GOD WTF IS THAT moments. Good times

With the Aussie dollar doing so shitacular at the moment we're paying on par now with America for games. (Top tier Xbox360 games were going for $130AUD not too long ago, even when it was sitting around 85c/dollar. Now it's a comfortable $80AUD/$54USD)
Far Cry 2....well I didn't like STALKER mainly because everything was spaced too far apart and you had to walk everywhere. That and the damage/healing systems were for lack of a better word hilarious. (take a shotgun to the gut, lose 75% health press medkit restore 75% health. While strafing and shooting). FC2 on the other hand puts vehicles in, but made the place even larger. It's nice but quickly becomes troublesome.
Then there's the checkpoints. Clear one out and move on, to having to turn around because you forgot to pick up the health pack only to find the place you just cleaned out is full of more of the same morons as before. If you feel like having fun you can charge them with your machete, but you can only do that so many times.
tl;dr: It's STALKER with vehicles, and instead of radiation poisoning you get malaria.
SPORE...well I bought it only because I played the pirated version prior, and thought that it the developer should at least get something for their trouble. 48 hours later...it'l be lucky if it gets another spin in the CD Drive...
I've bought Fable II but can't seem to crack it open while FC2 is around. 42% through main game. Rock Band II (AU never got the first one) next week, next Guitar Hero a few days after that.

well it doesn't seem like stalker to me. i uninstalled stalker after around 10 minutes of play, i've been on farcry 2 with a friend for hours and hours over the last week. there are certainly bugs with the game, as mentioned, the issue of going back to find all the bad guys have reappeared, but other than backtracking to drop off an item i've just collected, i've never had reason to return to an outpost, if you're having to go back for a medikit then you're doing something pretty wrong, shouldn't really be any need for it (saying that i don't like how you can be stealthy as you like yet they'll still find you and still know where you are if you fire a shot

I was referring to how it's all open world, where you can pick up missions or not. And how the missions only activate when you get close. (Doesn't matter what time of day either). I agree on the Stealth. Enemies can see you through thick shrubs when you can't see a damn thing. And they shoot through the corrugated iron like they've got wallhacks. On the MedKit thing, I don't like leaving without a full set of stims.
And, when being chased the guys don't know when to give up. I hurtled through 2 checkpoints, even ditching the hatchback for a truck w/turret on the second one then raced off. I only stopped because well after the second checkpoint they were still chasing and destroyed the engine.
Still, it's the first game I've bought for a long time where it's got more than 1 evening's play time. Will crack Fable open over the weekend.
Also, Fallout day today.

odd, might just be playing styles then. i find that whenever i get to a checkpoint, i just drive (my prefered method is boat) straight through, normally get shot once but jsut drive off. if they should pose a threat i just jump out, take down the 3 people and go on again, only time i ever need medikits is when i'm going intoa propper mission where there are hundreds of people, checkpoints are just little nuisanses, little more but i agree, love the fact that i've been playing it for a week and i've only completed 8%

Got into Fallout 3 (PS3) over the weekend.
The post-apocalyptic genre is fascinating. The whole concept of running through rubble and debris of what used to be a small city that was designed to accomodate tens of thousands is suddenly reduced to say maybe less than 50 inhabitants. Makes walking through it that much eerier.
There are a few things that tend to kill the experience. Monsters for instance that get stuck half-way through walls so that you can see and (try to) shoot them. Characters that because they got too close to each other would have to have two conversations to be able to move away. Oh, and the fact that if you even look at something that's locked and somebody else is watching you get a tongue lashing (But officer I was only checking to see if they were awake at 2am, honest!). That last one I really hope doesn't make it into the next Elder Scrolls (since F3 is based on the same engine).
...and a trap that wouldn't stop moving because it too got stuck part way in the roof. Made an awful jingle noise that wouldn't cease.
One awesome improvement over Oblivion? If you're overweight from carrying lots of stuff you're not bolted to the ground. You can at least walk back to town (but you can't fast travel). Money is hard to find (at least it is for me) and you're forever scrounging looking for ammo. It makes for some great desperation times where you're very low on ammo, low on health and you're stuck in the middle of nowhere trying to sneak out.
Left 4 Dead looks to be another good game. Have not tried Fable II yet.

daboggeyman, if you enjoyed Elder Scrolls:Oblivion but wanted that same style in a modern world, Fallout is your ticket. Has more humour in it too.
The great thing about consoles is that the ticket to entry is pretty low compared to a decent PC. But it does have its drawbacks..
OK...just line im up...oops target is moving, have to compensate, aim to the right---no too much go back left a bit...wait (left a bit more) he's stopped, edge a little back to the right~~no left!...wait now he's walking back the other way! Confounded beast! "Squire, the situation has changed: hand me my rocket launcher...."
Unfortunately, ham-handedness has caused so much trouble that I had to dial down the difficulty to keep a level playing field. On the PC however I don't think you'd need V.A.T.S for aiming.
Prices are creeping back up. Fallout cost $90 Aussie dollars/$59.6. Won't be long before we're paying $130/$86 again.

Thanks!
I'll eventually get around to Fable II and put up some thoughts here.

daboggeyman, if you enjoyed Elder Scrolls:Oblivion but wanted that same style in a modern world, Fallout is your ticket.
Won't be long before we're paying $130/$86 again. last i looked the brits were paying US$100 a title as a pretty standard accepted rate

I'll eventually get around to Fable II and put up some thoughts here. Cool look forward to hearing about it, do ya play any FPS? I have enjoyed Front lines FOW & COD 4. I have started COD 5 beta but cant say to much on it yet because haven,t had the time. I enjoyed Crysis and lately it has been Grid.
