Thanks Hexus.net: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=16529when ZOTAC announced its very impressive looking GeForce 8200-ITX WiFi motherboard earlier this week, HEXUS reader Shooty questioned the availability of a suitable chassis by asking "What do you use? A biscuit tin?".
Not quite, Shooty, what you'd need is a small-form-factor chassis like SilverStone's newly-announced mini-ITX Sugo SG05.
This minuscule steel chassis measures just 218mm x 276mm x 175mm, but still has room for a mini-ITX or mini-DTX motherboard. There are two PCI slots at the rear, and if on-board graphics just don't do it for you, there's room for a graphics card up to 230mm in length.
SilverStone states that Intel and AMD's standard CPU coolers will fit without a problem, and a selection of custom coolers should squeeze in too - providing they're less than 82mm tall, we're told. There's a 300W PSU included, and room for a slim optical drive, as well as one 3.5in drive or two 2.5in drives.
On the Sugo SG05's front you'll find USB and audio connectivity, and a 120mm fan hiding behind the grill. SilverStone tells us it makes for a positive air pressure design that results in little-to-no dust and enough cooling performance to keep a 130W CPU in operation.
All sounds rather interesting, we feel, and providing the fan can keep whisper-quiet, it has the makings of a useful HTPC encolsure. It'll hit retail in mid-January 2009 at a recommended price of €83 excluding VAT

that looks a complete waste of our time. for a start, it's huge, i'll take a G2 case ta.
it does look good, i'll give you that, and it is probably a lot quieter than a G2 case, but it probably costs a lot, the single motherboard available probably costs a lot and lacks features, and it just doesn't really appeal to me. if i'm going m-itx this is because i'm after a tiny computer for a specific reason, not a really expensive small(?) gaming machine

hells yeeah my SD30G2 set me bakc around £100 total for the entire build, took it to the lan party over the summer, with my dual core and 4850 and 4gb and it rocked to be quite frank, and i got a really quite surprising amount of interest and compliments on how the box is even smaller and powerful than the image of a shuttle they already held in their mind. the front panel is indeed, very good looking and aside from the psu, it's a fab box, i use the shuttle over the sugo every day of the week

for me it's just too big, as said, if i went m-itx it was because i really needed that smaller footprint, so there wouldn't be a justification for using this thing over a fully fledged shuttle etc

Shuttle offers more power (quad core CPU support, upcoming i7 support) in a smaller box, so I'll take that instead.

is the G2 actually smaller? G2 = 300(L) x 200(W) x 185(H) S5 = 276(L) x 218(W) x 175(H)
does the G2 have a decent chipset? G2 = Intel 945GC + ICH7 S5 = NVIDIA GeForce 8200 mGPU
What is this about i7 support from Shuttle? Have there been any X58 plans from Shuttle?
regards
p.s. I am a big silverstone fan, and love the idae of decent cooling in a mini-ITX case.

Agreed, the dimensions are similar.
Shuttle's forthcoming i7 offering is basically ever-so-slightly larger than the G2, has dual PCIe x16 slots and a 500W PSU.
G2 and G5 support for Core 2 Quad in s775 form cannot be underestimated either.

I hope SilverStone releases a silver version of the SG05 and makes that 400W 80+ SFX PSU available. I'm going to snag both along with the Zotac 9300 wifi board. Sold my last Shuttle awhile ago and have been happy with a Sugo SG03. The SG03 has been more quiet than any Shuttle I ever had. Not expecting the SG05 to be as quiet since those SFX PSUs have small fans.

you got a link for the 400W SFX PSU?
any chance it has a 92mm fan inside at least...........?
i am really put off by the idea of an 80mm dealing with the heat from the CPU and PSU.

I noticed that at CES this year Silverstone was showing this case off with windows on the side panels. I'd love it if Silverstone made a SG05 with side windows as they did with the SG01. I have just picked up the Zotac 9300-itx and a SG05 with windows would be the perfect little case for it. IMHO
