I have recently upgraded from Win98 se to Win XP Pro. Everything went fine and everyday use is ok with no glitches.

However, when I try to run any games (Castle Wolfenstein, SofF, Max Payne etc.) the menus and the game graphics corrupt making the games unplayable. Castle Wolfenstein won’t even load but does mention that it cannot load Open GL subsystem (see report at the bottom of message).

All these games worked fine with my Nvidia Geforce 2 GTS card (Dell) before I installed WinXP. However, I noted on installation that it replaced the drivers with the Windows certified ones. I have since tried to install the latest XP drivers for my card from the Dell website and also tried the latest DetonatorXP drivers. The games will run but I can see graphical glitches and shortly afterwards the game lock up my system resulting in a hard reset. The result is the same with all the driver versions i've tried.

I have a VIA chipset motherboard (Abit) and have downloaded the latest 4in1 drivers (v4.37) for it. I also have DirectX 8.1 installed.

Any helpful comments would be appreciated.

The Castle Wolfenstein error report is as follows:-

switch to drivers 27.51, and try to make wolfenstein to use direct3d instead of opengl. This should do the job.
