I've very briefly tried some linux distros.  Recently I've gotten a strong desire to try Ubuntu out.  I'm going to ask for a new HDD for Christmas so I can load it up on there and work with it.  I've messed around with the Live CD, but I'd like to do an install and work more with it.

I think I'm really going to enjoy it from my brief experience with it so far.  The biggest thing for me is going to be games.  If Linux improved in the gaming area to be on-par with Windows, I definitely give it a legit shot at replacing Windows altogether.  But I'm going to have to keep a Windows install around at least for the games.

well i  am currently singing ubuntu's praises out of the open window. it simply works, i've yet to have any real issue with it (little trouble with dvd payback but i can easily sort that one out myself)

i have counterstrike working just fine, and i thought hey, i'll see what world of goo is like, downloaded the exe and double clicked, wine did it's majic and it also worked absolutely flawlessly, i mean hell,  my wireless worked out of the box, that's got to be a first for linux Cheesy

I'm a big honkin' fan of Mint, which is apparently built on Ubuntu.

Works all good and stuff.

Hello! I like gNewSense. It's an Ubuntu/Debian derivative. 100% free!

I have switched from Kubuntu to Simply Mepis 8 both are KDE and both are based off Debian Lenny but Kubuntu uses the new KDE4 where Mepis uses KDE 3.5. I like the look of KDE 4 eye candy wise however I really do not think its ready for use on my primary use desktop for day to day use where KDE 3.5 is very stable. Maybe with the next version of Mepis when KDE 4 is a little more complete and stable but not right yet.

I recently installed Xandros "Presto" on my windows box at home and am enjoying it.

It's EXTREMELY stripped down - I basically use it when I want to boot up in a few seconds and check the web for something - but does its job quite well. And people who know what they're doing under the hood should be able to customize it just fine.

Started with some now-extinct, forgotten german distro around kernel 2.0.
Got into Red Hat 5 somewhere...
My sister gave me Mandrake... got into it for years, at least one e-mail server still running where I worked years ago.
Jumped to SuSE, and then Sun Java Desktop which was SuSe under the skin.
Back to Red Hat - for work.
tried Ubuntu - don't like.
Now discovered Fedora 10, now 11 and found my nest....

Hello! I'm on gNewSense at the moment with openbox. Completely free (as in freedom, not beer!). I've tried Mepis, Ubuntu, Debian, Puppy, Fedora, Crunchbang, and a few others that I can't remember!
