I would love some info abut the upgraded power supply did you get it from Shuttle or another place and what kind of price did you pay for it. Also was any modifications needed to mount it in the SG33G5 I am very interested as I am currently running dual power supplies on my shuttle to prevent starving the 8800gt video card while folding on both the cpu and video card with only the 300 watt internal power supply I can fold on either the cpu or the gpu but not both at the same time without it locking up.

That is not the format of the power supply used by the SG33G5 that looks like a standard ATX type power supply. The SG33G5 uses a server 1U type power supply only 80mm wide and the largest one I had found to date was 300watts. If you could modify the case to accept a 100mm wide power supply then there were some larger power supplies available but I think you would have to eliminate the standard shuttle ICE to do that. If a 500watt 80mm wide power supply was discovered I would really like to know where it was found and price range as I would be very interested in one for my SG33G5.

Sorry about the delay guys havn't checked the form for a while...  I purchased 30 shuttles from them and made an inside friend that ive been working with on personal custom shuttle mods.  Ive been shooting them idea's and in return got a hook-up.  This power supply wont be available until November this year.  Its the same size as the one thats in the SG33G5 so it's just a more powerful replacement NOT AN EXTERNAL.   Ill get the ratings of the power supply and post in a little.

ahh excellent work mate. i would love to have a friend in the shuttle business. but 30 models - damn. I went straight from the Shuttle SG31G2 i think, NEARLY buying others untill finally i settled on the SX48P2 deluxe.

but with my dual HDD's and GTX280 (soon to be watercooled), i might need that extra 50W of power. shame november is so far away.

New to the forum , Great resource

I got to ask how the hell did you get that into the case, I brought a Single slot Galaxy GTX 260 razor a few days ago and i can't for the life of me figure out how to to get it in , i've tried all the angles and it just wants to go , Did you need to d-rivet the case at all?

Hi there

As far as I can see he cant put the case cover on, due to the double slot cooler on the graphic, which is probably why he is looking into water cooling, the graphic card cooler without the shroud will lose a lot of its efficiency.

Naz, the psu he is using is the same unit fitted to the shuttle SX58H7, its has a different size format and will not fit a p chasis. a Standard ATX ps is to big and the most powerful SFX psu which are smaller are only available up to 450 watts which is no better than the your current PSU.

Blitzu, It looks like a tight fit, but it should fit, you will need to remove the optical drive and the hd cages, you may even have to remove the ICE cooler and the memory, drop card in from above diagonaly and manuever into place,  you probably cant install it because you are trying to install from the outside of the shuttle chasis and you are finding the length of the card wont let the card fit in.

Regards

Thank JR,

I did remove the the Cage and the Fan  and tried to come in from the top, I guess i'll try stripping every thing (memory , Cables )out and see if i can get it in that way,  After doing a bit more research (ordered the card on a whim) looks like I'm gonna need a beefier PSU than stock, I'd like to get a hold of one of those 500watt suckers from the SX58H7, anyone have any ideas when / if it'll be released

The PC63 power supply replacement part I got does not readily fit the G2/G5 chassis. It has an ugly bump on half the length, conflicting with fan shroud. In addition it is little less than half an inch longer.
Also the fan on the rear is slightly larger.

Not sure if there several revisions of the 500W power supply. But I would assume all the H7 power supply are in the same form factor.

Seems like I will need to modify something to get this one to fit.

I think that If you have to make g\big hole for the fix the fan. It should be very helpful for maintain the cooling system. It would be also hard to modify system. I wish that You will modify it as soon as far and come with its photos as well.

I believe some someone already posted some pictures of the solution here: http://www.sudhian.com/index.php?/forums/viewthread/107127/
I can't find any other way, without redoing the whole cooling setup, and that is why my power is still unused, cause I can't be bothered to replace the I.C.E.
