hi there,

i would like to use my trusty old shuttle SB51G w/ 500GB HD in the living room as a torrent box.  i read something about a 120mm fan mod and without doing much research bought myself a noctua NF-P12 120mm fan.  my bad.  how do i install this damn thing?  is there a guide somewhere?

what's the best way to bring the noise-level down on the SB51G?

thanks!

Hi fcuk112,

Welcome to the forums.

What CPU, video card (if any) have you got installed?

Do you still have the original 200W PSU installed, if so what Brand/model is it?

I have a SB51G. The 120 mm fan means major surgery.

Start by replacing the 80mm CPU fan with a quieter model. Then replace the PSU fan. These are the two major sources of noise. Make sure the drives you use run cool - use 5400 RPM drives. If you're using an add-in graphics card, go for one of the fanless ones and be prepared to drill ventilation holes in the case.
