Hi everyone,

Sudhian is in the process of making the transition away from ExpressionEngine.

As you all know, EE has gotten a bit long in the tooth, and doesn't offer the features or speed that we all expect from modern-day forum software.

We will be transitioning to SMF in the near future, and we have a test forum up and running that we want your feedback on.

Please visit and let us know your thoughts! Please note, it is not a "live" forum, so any posts you make will not be retained.

As Babar said, we would definitely love your feedback.  This forum is for all of you after all, and we want to make it user friendly and efficient.  Your feedback and even criticism will help us get there.

I should add, this switch will not be occurring within the next month, It is likely to occur in early December. With a revamp to the front page to keep it in theme with the new forum.

We value your feedback as Craigbru has mentioned. If you want it to remain private feel free to PM myself and I will pass on the comments whilst not passing on whom said it.

You can also email comments to : emailus@sudhian.com

Great, glad to hear!

We've reduced the response time from about 260 seconds per 100 hits to around 20 seconds per 100 hits.

What are your impressions of the new layout, colors, etc?

I have not registered on the new site could that be the problem?
When I try to register on it it says my UN has already been taken.

Why would you need to register again? Your username and password is the same as it was on the date the database was converted in this case, late August 2010...

If you have changed your password since then, you need to use the old password.

Otherwise I suggest you use the forgot password function. As it will send an email to your email address you have in the system.

The only problem I could think of is if you use any @#$%^&*()_!-+= characters in your password. But that should'nt cause an issue, as it didn't for me.

under Account Related Settings/Hide email address from public?
There is a "Check Box" w/ No Description, I'm guessing YES due to <input type="checkbox" class="check" value="1" checked="checked" name="hideEmail">?

The new forum looks ok.
Some comments still:

1)
Also I had problem logging in, although I have not changed password here for some time. Using the "forgot password" function helped, but as it had already locked the account due to too many attempts, so I had to wait for timeout.

There have now been several people who have complained about login problems, so I would guess that the password transition is not going quite smoothly. Possibly the password encryption has changed or something, so that not every password gets transferred intact.

I would suggest that you post large notices before the final change, so that everyone have updated the email addresses to a currently functioning one, so that the "forget password" mails with links will reach the users after the change.

2)
I do not like the additional text formatting options. It is quite possible that some users get too carried away with fancy formatting. You might consider restricting the available effects to some extent. http://www.sudhian.com/sudhiantestforum/index.php/topic,107405.msg939880.html#msg939880

3)
I also noticed that uploading avatars is still disabled (directory not writable). That is for testing, I guess...

It appears that if you tick the I want to stay logged in for x amount of time. Then the login works correctly, after the first login it doesn't matter. I'll look into this further, possibly changing the error message that appears to inform the user of this, or setting that to be ticked by default. At least you can confirm the lost password function works.

I have no problem with limiting the amount of text formatting options. I have to agree to many can annoy me at times aswell.

This is due to the location of that directory not being decided yet. So I have disabled the option to upload avatars. You can just put the address of your current one in the field before and it will link to that. I plan to do that for most users when the final transition does occur so everyone keeps there current avatar.

Thanks for the feedback!

The problem with the login's should be fixed now.

I had to change a few settings to do with how the cookies were handled.

Everything should be work correctly now. Your old passwords should still work. All my testing accounts converted across across correctly.

In the new forum, the color scheme still requires some checking:
If you go to look for all posts of a user, you get the header / subject info with white text on a light grey background. Impossible to read. See example by clicking the link:

I'll pass it on to Babar to let him know he needs to modify the theme.

Have you tried the non-default themes? If so noticed any issues with those?

Looks like it has been already modified ;-)

It looked like this when I complained:

EDIT: Actually still does. For some reason there was a few minutes ago more readable text, but right now I get again the white on very light gray.

Apologies, I was modifying the other theme and was testing it across numerous platforms and screens.

I have set it back to what has been chosen as the default.

Although as you have seen the other theme now, what do you think?

I still think that the default theme has one strange element, the white text on light gray background (displayed in my screenshot above). Hopefully that will be changed to something readable before launch.

The other theme has much more readable colors at the same place.
