Hiya People,

Just about to put together a AMD x6 with an ATI5830 (to put some distance between myself and Babar) plus chasing the 1million mark.

Will folding with the CPU whilst overclocking (old school thru BIOS so wish me luck) using the OEM cooler for now :-0 but what about the GPU, hence the question:

Can I fold using the GPU AND CPU at the same time?

The GPU folding FAQ mentions that the GPU client utilises the CPU.

Note that I will be using the console versions in both cases as I find them easier to control and setup ;-)

Any past experience or gotchas?

Keep folding and folder harder!

Hi VFR, are you running a two- or four-core CPU?

If a two-core CPU, you probably cannot run both the GPU client and the SMP CPU client, but you *might* be able to get away with running the regular (non-SMP) cpu client, depending on how powerful your CPU is.

If a four-core CPU, you should be able to run both GPU and SMP CPU client no problem.

Good luck!

edit: nm, I just saw your mention of running a x6 cpu. In that case, you should be able to run GPU + SMF CPU no problem.

Well People, I have finally moved into the new age CPUs. Saying that, I am still running my standard PC which has an Thunderbird AthlonXP 2500+ running at 2.3MHz.

My new PC which is more for my son to play Call of Duty  :bug:  is a AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T currently running at 3.85MHz (19x203) with a XFX 5830 engine@900MHz and memory 1900MHz.

For the x6, I am running with these flags: -forceasm -advmethods -smp 5 -verbosity 9 and for the GPU: -forcegpu ati_r700 -forceasm -advmethods -verbosity 9

The GPU is capable of finishing its work in about 3 hours whereas the x6 is slowing churning away. I am only using 5 of the CPU cores as running the GPU seems to take up 85% of one core, so running at 5 cores seems to max out the CPU at 100%.

My room is nice and warm now even without the heating as I have the both the PC's running in my room - stress testing ;-)

This should put some distance on Babar %-P

Keep folding and fold harder!

p.s. The CPU temps are around 50C and the GPU is closer to 80C!

Very nice set up there - how many PPD would you say the x6 puts out? Very curious to see how it does... I fold on a few Core 2 Duos, but they don't return much more than 150 pts per workunit, maybe once or twice a day. Not too many points, really. I always get more with GPUs, even a previous gen geforce 7900gs gets more points than a C2D cpu.

Not sure how many PPD the x6 provides but when I get that folding monitoring software, I will see.

Just installed FAHMon and according to that, the x6 is 4709.29PPD compared to my poor TB's 110.30. The GPU doesn't have PPD.
