Ten years after it was introduced, Windows XP is still the most popular computer operating system, according to figures from Net Applications. About 54 percent of PCs are still running XP, while about 24 percent are on Microsoft's 18-month-old

It's not to much of a surprise, technology reached a point about 6 years ago where it was good enough to do what 95% of the population wanted it to do.

Therefor everyone is still using that system and there hasn't been the 'need' to change or upgrade.

Well gamers were the biggest reason for upgrades and with the decline of computer gaming the demand dropped a good bit for wanting the latest OS , I run Vista and Win 7 on different HD's and find my self booting up my XP HD less and less

Decline of computer gaming?Huh Youre kidding right?

Recent numbers are huge showing accelerated growth in the pc gaming market along with a bigger push in mobile gaming.

If you dont play alot of newer games youll find XP a better choice as it crosses over better with older games but the reality is you have to have at least Vista today for most newer releases.

I think alot of the newer pc gamers are people that got involved with games on the Social Media sites then converted across.

In fact Social gaming is a seperate platform but is a part of the overall pc gaming market.

The growth in pc gaming is coming mainly from online sales, digital addon content and MMOs on top of healthy overall sales of pc games.

Online sales have grown so much it and at such a pce that many companies are beginning to move in that direction seeing a structural shift in the market.

Mobile sales and portable gaming combined with the typical pc sales has caused a huge growth in this market.

The problem previously was that the stats werent being reported properly but recently we see those numbers as well as whos playing most on what platform and those stats indicate a shift towards pc,online and mobile gaming.

Yes consoles continue to dominate but that gap has narrowed significantly as pc gaming grows at a very healthy pace.
