The very thing that made it seem like a good idea may very well be its biggest disadvantage.

Not sure what Chrome OS will have over Windows 8 (which can run on ARM chips) or iOS... or even Android. IMO, Android is Google's real OS, not ChromeOS.

ChromeOS is totally Cloud based thats both its advantage and disadvantage.

With its simple directed design its fast, simple and has few issues and is compatible over time with a wide range of hardware.

You cant compare it directly to Win* or even other mobile OS.

Its Google's attempt to sell hardware in a proprietary fashion with the emphasis on their apps.

But it can't run in the absence of an Internet connection?

It can run but you are very limited in what you can do overall.

All your apps, documents files are online and you can work offline and sync later but frankly thats a pain to be honest.

That does sound like a pain, I think it's easier to just use solutions like Dropbox or Sugarsync.

I use many apps on iOS that sync to Dropbox and I find them to be a revelation. I can use multiple devices to work on the same project.... really a huge revelation and big difference from how I've been using computers all my life.

Ive been using the Linux distros like Peppermint Ice that focus more on Cloud apps and its a complete pain to use and you are completely dependent overall on Google Apps.

You know how I feel about Google so for me its a no go on so many levels.

yeah, google apps was a good shot at setting up some sort of collaborative sync environment hosted in the cloud. but i feel like Dropbox and Sugarsync have so much more to offer as you can use any program with them, not just Google's web apps.
