Sources are reporting that Microsoft may end the Windows brand with Windows 8 and move to something new as part of their cross platform plans in the future.

I have seen some rumors about this floating around but it wouldn't come as any surprise if and when they do it.

Maybe we should start a naming campaign for the new product.

Post on the front page a feature, on what you think the next generation of Microsoft OS should be named.

Do we have this story posted on the front page as linking to it with the naming feature would be great.

I'm scared to see what the next name is seeing as Microsoft keeps coming up with names like "Bing," "Azure," "Zune," and "Bob".

Funny satire video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeXAcwriid0

And, a PC Magazine columnist says the Windows brand will never die, see here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2388523,00.asp

If Microsoft continues their trend of releasing operating systems...it should be called something like..."Not Quite Finished 8 1/2"

I don't think that they are going to end the window line. They surely will introduce windows in a new manner. Smiley

Probably, I don't see a billion dollar franchise name being thrown away because there's something new. Just add one of the typical buzz/hype words of 2011 and you've got the next Windows.
Like:
Windows HD 3D
Windows U
iWindows 8
Windows LED
Windows App
Windows Tablet (oh wait...)
Windows Touch

I hope they just go for Windows 8, I don't like stupid names that automatically make you associate that word with an operating system.
