Hi people I'm helping a friend get her PC up and running.
Its a Packard bell ixtreme 6052
The kid who mucked about with it put windows seven which just does not work with legacy driver for XP.
I'm planning to wipe the lot without the driver install discs.
I've found the PB website with the XP drivers but I'm confused to the following:
1)WHICH DRIVERS TO USE?
2)BEST METHOD OF INSTALLING THEM AFTER XP INSTALL?

Details of what I know on the mother board needs confiming though...
Chips:
SIS962Lua PNA 55110346FA
RTL 8101L sigmatel STAC 9750T
Winbond W83697HF

Its a celeron 2.6GHz I think SKT478???
Motherboard:GA-8SIMLNF?Huh
here is the link to the drivers support can someone clarify what I need please?
ftp://ftp.download.packardbell.com/DESKTOP/iXtreme%20(2004-2005)/Driver/Xp/]ftp://ftp.download.packardbell.com/DESKTOP/iXtreme%20(2004-2005)/Driver/Xp/]ftp://ftp.download.packardbell.com/DESKTOP/iXtreme%20(2004-2005)/Driver/Xp/

Any advice would be great!
Jay

Can you identify what mobo ver. is in there ?  I would 1st. go ahead and format the HD and wipe it clean. Go ahead and install XP and get all your updates from MS . Do that 1st. and see what your left with you should be able to get most everything up going. After that you shouldn't need very much as far as drivers.

The link is broke you provided CJ.

Code:
ftp://ftp.download.packardbell.com/DESKTOP/iXtreme%20(2004-2005)/Driver/Xp/
Works for me, this forum software is putting a http at the start of it annoyingly. ( I'll fix the code when I get a chance )

I guess its a SIS Chipset, is it using onboard or dedicated graphics?

You will most likely need the Lan drivers.

I am only guessing here, I couldn't find any of those drivers on the link you provided.

That looks like a fairly decent option, although I wonder if it needs a working Lan Connection to work.

Thanks mate I really hate driver genius' I had a cry moment with one on my shuttle idle thumbs and all that last resort I'll give it a go though..
Lan drivers okay!
The window seven did say I should load PCI I/O bus driver before the audio sound driver one thats where my skills got shot down at that point.

So far!

XP uploaded and updating
That driver detective wont connect to the internet for some reason and no scans to be had.
Hardware detected three drivers not installed
Multimedia Audio controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
SM Bus controller

Any suggestions?

The multimedia Audio Controller should be a realtek one.

Did you try the link I provided?

I'm guessing its a SIS chipset for the VGA drivers, same as the SM bus controller.

Fair enough, your suggesting that we are not experts!!! I'm offended  Grin Wink

It did seem a rather old system. It probably will run a tad better now aswell.

Even if you guys don't fix my problems, you help me by focusing on the task at hand!
Yeah old? understatement mate LOL!
Its weird in the UK the prices for DDR1 as I call it, cost more than DDR2 because of short supply. Someone wanted (Retail) £25 for a pair of 512mb (1G). One place wanted to charge me just for 512mb!
I got lucky looking in my treasure box of legacy hardware, managed to find one stick of 512 so she has 760mb of ram.
I've always liked the Celron chips they do one job well and thats it. You can feel it thinking then spring into life.
She should get it back Monday I had to mod the reg-edit a tad to stop annoying pop up reminders, but no issues all service packs are in.
I've learned to have back up discs for all service packs as I reckon this takes the longest time to upload updates and install.

On another note we just got our Wii back with 140 games LOL!!! Tongue
