The price is nice but it is more or less a celeron 700 on something like a nForce ...
Not that powerful.

There's currently a thread on slashdot about this, I haven't read it yet, but you are right, you can't beat the price for one of this if it can be hacked and used as a pc.  Even with a celeron, it is still faster than my main pc.

its a pIII 733 with ddr...enhanced geforce3(=geforce4), 5.1 audio, 4 usb...etc. i know of some people trying to get linux on it, but ms has it protected pretty well.

as soon as hardware mod chips are out, that should help crack it.

but yeah they have cracked the xbox about a week ago and they mod chips are now starting to be created

It is not a Celeron, it is a P3.  Despite having the same cache size as a Celeron it has two features that a Celeron does not but a P3 does: 133Mhz FSB and 8 way set-associativity on its L2 cache.  Were it a Celeron its cache would not be designed in that manner.  So yes, it is a P3.

pentium 3 with some changes to some...

http://www4.tomshardware.com/consumer/02q1/020204/xbox-02.html

seems like it is a p3 that has its cache changed a bit...

somewhat a p3 with celeron cache?

Sure it's cheap. But it's not very small and not very quiet.  I love the irony of Linux on M$ hardware although these guys haven't got that far Linux Xbox and with M$ making hardware changes just as mod chips are about to come out - I don't think we'll be seeing it anytime soon.
