Bulldozer FX 6100, i5 2500, i7 2600?
Which Vdeo Card?
Which Chipsets are best for each platform?
I would like to stay around a 1k if possible.

The build will be none gaming, web design, graphic design, some video editing, some 3d rendering & virtualization.

I would vote for the i7, Z68 chipset, video card could be almost any 2nd tier with the right connectors since you won't be gaming. Add to that some reasonable SSD for the Z68's cache -- I used an OZC Vertex 3. Oh, yeah, if you are doing computationally intense work then you'd want at least 8gB of full-speed RAM. $1k might be a bit, ok a lot, optimistic if you are talking full-system cost.

Bulldozer Tested - Windows 8

Keep in mind W8 is still in the testing stages...

I've seen where the sb i5 2500 is almost as fast as the sb i7 2600.
It's $100+ difference.

One question that bugs me is are 4 faster cores better than 6 slower cores?
The best I can tell it all depends on the applications.

Of those choices, I would lean toward the i5-2500. The clock difference from the i7 chips is not very great. You will lose the HyperThreading, but I have heard bad things about that.

I like the AMD mid-range graphics cards, 5670 or so. I don't need more graphics than that, and I don't like heat.

I have been doing some reading that states I will be better off with a real AMD x6 Core over Bulldozer FX 6100 x3 cores & i5 x4 cores due to multi-tasking?

The video, 3d & photoshop editing benchmarks looks good on some sites.

I have heard for a long time that Nvida is a better choice for intel chipsets?

Rule of thumb Nivida functions better with  intel chipsets
