I just noticed the mPCIe slot and was considering putting an SSD in there. Has anyone done this? Will it accommodate an SSD or is it for wi-fi card only?

I put in a mPCIe USB3.0 controller card.  The only thing that was wonky was that I had to also install a powered USB3 hub in...because the controller card did not put out enough juice for the USB3 powered items.  I have not tried a SSD in the slot though.

I'm fairly certain the slot is not an SATA one but for a mini pci-e wi-fi card or the like.
The SZ68R5 is the first i know of that has an SATA slot for Intel SRT

It is not compatible with the mSATA standard. You could try to install a mPCIe SATA3 card. I tried this in a SA76R4 but ended up sending the card back. The mPCIe port supports only PCI spec 1.2 which limits the speed. It is really just for a WiFi card. See my earlier post about it here:

Hi there

As gugngel has already stated the mini pcie slot is only version 1.2, which limnits its performance, but possible uses
are for the slot are wifi, bluetooth, tv tuner, usb 3, sata, robson devices (intel turbo memory).

I'm ok if it limits its performance as I wouldn't be putting in a super fast SSD though, just looking for something small and faster than traditional HDD. I'm addicted to SSD's now after using them in my desktop and laptop. Anything less just won't do. :p

So mPCIe SATA3 card may work then?

Im not sure if you understand what he meant.  If you do I apologise...but he said you might be able to put a sata CONTROLLER card in the slot...not a sata drive.  This slot does not meet all mpcix standards.  It is also bandwith limited to PCIX X 1....so there really isnt any performance gains using it...just an extra sata controller. The slot was meant for those small SLOOOW proprietary netbook SSDs for the intel READYBOOST caching function that never really caught on.

Isn't PCIe x1 = 4Gbps = 500MB/s? And SATA II is 3Gbps? Aren't there PCIe SATA cards, must have their own SATA controller onboard I guess.
