This a bug?
Could it affect anything?
Should I reinstall?

Looks legitimate to me, why do you have concerns?
It is listed here as a 7 pointer. Let it run.

Ok just saw that the 200 figure is the number of frames. Thought it was the % point comparison, and could'nt figure out the reason we had the bracketed %.

I feel dumb. Should of checked the log before panicking. We had a brown-out that rebooted the PC just before I let it connect to the server to get a new WU, so when the screen showed 200 instead of the 100 I had seen before, I just got a little nervous, and did'nt want to let work go on too long,  to later find out that the WU would be rejected...

EDIT: I do have a UPS, but the P4 is on it... I should get another UPS, but my middle name is "poor".

Ok Ice_Biker and Wreck-It,

I have a dumb one for you---

My Win2k folding client says my system is working on def1/pdbdef1.xyz

I tried to look it up on a google search, but all I got was a website
www.kdfold.com/daily.html, and a couple of other sites.

What is my machine working on??? It sure seems slow, as the machine has been crunching on this for at least 5 hours, and it is only 2400/ 6000 units (40%) done. Not too impressive for a dual- PII XEON 450 system, huh??? Maybe I have been "Gates'd", again.

Cheers,

Shane

I think you are currently working on Protein 268.
Strangely this protein doesn't print anything else than "def1/pdbdef1.xyz" in my sister's PC logs, so I guess that's the one.

Download the latest version of Electron Microscope... it gives you much much more information:
Sudhian and Electron Microscope

And most importantly it allows you to monitor the folding on your 4 processors at the same time (if your computers are networked).

I only have 2, so you might be confusing my setup with someone else's, but they are networked. But since they are side by side in the war room, seeing what's going on ain't to much of a problem.

I have learned much since that original post... I know use the F@H log in the program files to see what's going on, and everything's going without a hitch... I also woke up to the fact that 200 was the number of frames... Duh...

In fact, right now i'm at 11 total WUs, as of Sunday the 10th nov, 2:50 PM, local time. My ranking went from lowest to -80th in 4 days, wich isn't to bad... I know i'll never cath up to those with PC farms ou there, but i'm contributing what I can. I'm also trying to convince people to join, but since the official site is'nt available in french, it's kind of hard to have them understand what protein folding is... I've directed them to the Quebec team page, wich offers some level of translation, but they tend to be wary of having their PCs running all the time...  They have cheap cases, cheap 250W PSUs and inexistant ventilation on their PCs, so I can't very well blame them....

Hi Wreck-It

I was responding to CyberSapient's post (he's got 2 duallies), hence the 4 cpus. (I should have precised that in my post).

<< the official site is'nt available in french, it's kind of hard to have them understand what protein folding is... >>

I was trying to explain to my parents what's all this about and the best french site I've found was the Alliance Francophone website (Alliance des plieurs Francophones)... maybe worth a look.

BTW: The Quebec part is kind of "not finished", so the best is to have a look at the "France" section.

Hi All!!

Anonymous- Thanks for the note on the EMIII- I was reading about that this AM early. I will try downloading that one!!

Crazy Frog- Thanks for your post, as well!! I now have six procesors in three boxes folding away- my laundry doesn't seem to be moving, though ...

I would love to see what's happening with them. There's a project going on in my Dual PIII 933 machine (running -advmethods and -forceasm) that looks HUGE. I have no idea when it will get done, as it is working on virtually the same thing this afternoon, that it started Late last evening, after I moded in the -adv options. I looks like a monster. one processor is up to 65 frames, the other one seems to be inteleaving two processes simultaneously- I'm not sure why it's doing this, but I'm letting it roll.

So you are in France?Huh What city? I got to spend three days in Paris a little over three years ago, and I think Paris is  a wonderful city, and I found the people there were tremendously friendly!!

Back to folding, and the machines doing it: I have one  dual PII XEON, which I am writing from at the moment. I have one dual PIII 933, and I have one dual PIII 733 machine, all folding. The Win2k machine seems to only want to use one processor, as the status shows 50% CPU load... It did finish that one project I was asking about, and it is now working on p209, I believe, for what it is worth. Lots of heat and noise here, and I am not sure I am making much of a dent (at least not by stats- I am 110th now). To be fair,  the dual 733 machine just got rolling this AM at around 6:00, so I can't expect too much from it at the moment. It looks like both processors are almost finished with their tasks (I am not running them in -adv modes yet). The 933 is crunching on some huge thing- one processor is working on what it calls wu-1 and the other is working on what it calles wu-5. I have been reading almost continually on this stuff, but I am still pretty clueless!!

Thanks so much for your kind and helpful responses!!

FOLD ON!!!

I'm currently working on the 'xyz' protein, also.  200/6000 at the moment.  Tell you what, though, it had better give me a buttload of points.

You really have to download some kind of software to make it easier for you to understand what's going on... EM3 is used by a lot of people because it tells you the name of the proteins, how many points they are worth, how long it will take you to finish them and records stats for all your machines... on all your cpus from 1 computer.
It's really usefull, even if you have only one cpu working for you.

CyberSapient, you should enable the personal message feature in your profile.
I'm in England near Manchester and moving to London in 2 weeks.
I love Paris too... it's such a great, clean, friendly, warm and green city (I'll be there for my new job in 3 weeks ).

Wreck-It, don't waste time with people that are not bilingual... If they can't understand English, they probably don't understand computers, and they could think that this folding thing is folding computer viruses...

Crazy Frog,

I checked my profile, and it says that private messages are enabled. Now, how I send/get them, I am clueless. This is  the first time I have ever joined a message board in almost 20 years, so I am quite the newbie at it.

This certainly is a nice group of people!!

So, if you could, tell me if there is something else I need to do to enable the off-board messaging system... That way I won't  pollute the board with OT traffic.

Mark, I know what you mean- I have several of these monster wu's in progress. One of them seems to take nearly 24 hours to complete on a PIII 933.

I am thinking about how much faster an Athlon machine would be. I like the SN41 idea, as it has much higher memory speeds than the SB51- I would love to see a benchmark comparison between these two units.

TTYL,

When you get a new message in, there is an icon in the upper left hand area of each page on the forums.  It will light up and tell you how many pending messages you have.

Even if there are no messages in your queue, you can click on that to send a message.  Or if you see someone's post and want to reply, they will have a little lock icon on their post.  Click that icon and a screen will come up where you can type them a message and send it.
