Has someone at Sudhian have one of those new hyperthreading P4's to play with?  I would like to see a benchmark comparison between running just one instance of folding@home compared to two instances on such box.

We've got one, but I'm not sure we're going to be able to keep it.

Intel themselves have stated that you'll only get 30% performance increase with SMP enabled apps, so I really don't think you'd do any better running two clients.  I think you'd just be better off not threading the cpu and going full guns ablazin.  The only caveat to that might be if you use the computer along for your regular desktop and wanted to keep the client going as well.

You know that gun motto:

"...you'll have pry it from my cold, dead fingers"

I think that applies to Joel, hehe.  I'm pretty dang sure he's not giving it up if he gets to keep it.  I was reading an overclocking site the other day (can't remember which one, but I think it was the Tech Report) and they said they got theirs up to 3.7 Ghz.  Niiiiiiiiiiice.

Looks like one the Sudhian team did some Folding@Home benchmarking with HT.

Yeah, I was suprised to see how well it performs when you enable HT and run two clients at once.

I was also interested in how different our benchmarks looked after changing up BIOS revisions and installing new Intel chipset drivers.  I think that shows just how important it's going to be that SiS and VIA get their chipset drivers right for HT.

I just installed F&H on a dual P4-2.4 Linux box with HT enabled within the OS.  So far, it seems to be running great, and definitely faster than my P4-2.26 XPC!
I really wish they'd come out with a Solaris version, then I could really abuse some servers...

2.4 with HT? HT enabled in the OS? ...So every Northwood CPU have HT?

I think that wisdom is a bit confused, and might be referring to SMP apps, where apps use both processors, or the OS uses them both.

I won't make any promises about hyperthreading, but I will be reviewing a VapoChill case with a 2.4 P4 on an Abit IT7 MAX2 in the near future.  Judging from the results other sites have had, I should easily pass the 3GHz mark.  My goal is 3.5, but who knows how far it will go?  After I finish the P4 kit, ASETek is sending me an AMD kit for the VapoChill.  I figure I should be able to get the 2600+ I'll be using to at least 3GHz, if not higher on an Abit KD7-RAID.

Basically the point is that I will test both setups and see how well they fold.
