DigiTimes is reporting that ECS is going to introduce a couple SFF machines in mid-December (no, not the Desknotes I mentioned before). They don't have much information on them or any pictures for that matter. They do say that they will be cheaper than the Shuttles and Jetways. I couldn't find any info at the ECS site either. Did anyone see these boxes in Comdex reports? I don't recall seeing these mentioned anywhere. |

I'll post some photos of it tomorrow. I'd say the December date is incredibly optimistic considering the fit and finish of the chassis I observed at Comdex.
Its called EZ-Buddy, Digitimes typo.

Digitimes has put out a bunch of stuff for ECS but not much as far as pictures or real substance. Concerning this unit, what are the specs... will it have an AGP slot?
Reported earlier was an ECS desknote with upgradable video. I have no idea if this is proprietary video or if you can plug in an off the shelf AGP card. If you can offer some info on this, that would be great.

The Desknotes are portables, you shouldn't be abe put any cards in. The orther DigiTimes article was misleading. The only full size things that the Desknotes take are memory and CPU. All the other components are notebook components.

Ok. It looks like a good looking small box. To bad as you said it dosen't take a full size 3.5" hard drive. I guess there is no expension slot and it dosen't take a full size 5.25" bay. Too bad cause the front has a very slick, modern design.

Sam, let's try to clear these posts up a bit The ECS SFF is not the same thing as the ECS Desknotes. No one knows any specifics about the ECS SFF yet. All we have is that picture (linked up above). We don't know what kind of drives it will take. When I said that the ECS Desknote doesn't take full size components, I was commenting on a different DigiTimes news piece that seems to give the impression that the Desknotes use full size components. The Desknote is ECS's laptop that uses a desktop CPU and memory, but uses a laptop CD and hard drive. According to DigiTimes, they will also be selling these without the LCD screen. That would give them two types of of SFF machines. The one we have a picture to and another one that is esentially a laptop without a screen. Whew, I hope that's clear now |

I apologize for some of the confusion by leading this thread a bit astray. Go to this page for the fundamentals on desknotes. As you can see, desknotes are not what we consider, SFF. I own both a desknote and a Shuttle SFF. |
