Greetings Gang!
I'm curious as to what folks think the quietest (most quiet? least noisy?) Shuttle box is, without any modifications or other changes. I've got a friend looking at buying 200+ workstations, and he's intrigued by the possibility of going with Shuttle boxes. However, noise is a major factor. I know he could build Eden workstations that would be even quieter than shuttle boxes, but...
So: bottom line question: which one is quietest, out of the box, unmodified, assuming you're using the stock heatsink(s)/fans/etc.?
Thanks!

ss51g and sb51 are pretty much the same, since they have the same fans the sn41 and ss40 will have a fan on the motherboard and therefor be a little bit more noisy (not much)
the ss50 doesnt have a heatpipe, and will be much more noisy
are you building them yourself or are you ordering them complete ? anyway, just switch the main fan with a more silent fan (papst,panaflo,titan... and many more) that is the best thing you can do, and will make your machines quiet without voiding the warranty and it takes like 1 minute
hmmm, an office with 200+ xpcs... seems like a nice place to work...

Quick (and perhaps stupid) question -- does the SS40 have a fan on the motherboard? I know the SN41 does, but I didn't think the SS40 did. Thanks in advance!!!! ASJunk PS. It should be a damn cool office to work in! Now all I need to do is get a job....

Yes, the SS40G / FS40 does have a mobo fan (i.e. on the north bridge), but it is very quiet - can hardly hear the difference when you stop it.
(Oops - sorry for the previous blank post!)

In order - quietest to loudest: SB51G, SS51G, SK41 & SS40G The SN41G, due to the HSF on the Northbridge. (Very acceptable noise level) The SV25 is quite noisy (about as noisy as you can stand) The SS50 is hellish noisy (un-acceptably noisy)
Hope this helps

My SS51 is sitting under my desk at the moment, and I can't even hear it. I think an Intel based SSF (SS51 or SB51) would your best bet if you're after some quiet, the heatpipes on the AMD systems have to work a bit harder to keep the CPU cool.

Many thanks all! Looks like Either SB51s or SK41s, for cost and quiet. Thanks again!
