I like the ability to minimise it and have it as a toolbar. this means I can watch my video clips in a little 1.5in window while working as well

Sorry guys, I just cannot share your enthusiasm - I've always been an mplayer2.exe fan - its far more compact than the bulky MediaPlayer in ME/2k/XP.

Unfortunately, the latest WMP9 codecs did not function with the older player.  However, there is a workaround - just grab MediaPlayer Classic, a freeware alternative that plays back every format you can imagine, including RealMedia and QuickTime (provided the codecs are installed).

...end of advertisment

JMBattle: agreed, although I use Sasami generally. No borders at all, fast, and with vast amounts of video filters. WinAmp (2, not 3 ) plays my audio and I'm sorted.

I still think Media Player Has the best of everything
even if it is clunky and slow.

I switched when 4 became available just to be able to
sort by artist or album name.

However 9 is starting to bug me

It regularly crashes when Ripping CD's
It crashes when retireving Track Data.

If it loads the track information and you click on it in the wrong place at the wrong time it renames the track
to the closest possible match and no matter how you try you cant change it back.

For instance I was looking for the album details for Tom Jones- Reload
It couldnt find it and the closest match it gave was Reload(Burning Water)
I accidentally clicked on something and "Burning down the house" became the first track on that album.
Changing the artist, Track and album details still left the track filed under the album title of Reload(Burning water) in the Media library.

I hope these will be ironed out soon. It is still a beta after all.

Zoom player is excellent. Media player 9 has all this digital rights nonsense stuff while reporting what you are watching back to M$...Do not touch even with an Olympics-grade pole stick.

The advantage of digital rights is you can swap with someone on a P2P
network and neither of you can access each others media

Yeah, I reskinned WMP7 onwards to look like like ye olde player. The downside is you miss out on all the new features... not that any are that gripping.

Does anyone know if WMP9 has the ATI deblocking thing in?

WMA v9 VBR is very good in my opinion.  Most of the time, I still listen to CDs on a full sized hifi system.  On PCs I encode at 192 kbps MP3.  However, for pDA with their limited storage e.g. I use a 256 MB SD card with my PocketPC, I encode at WMA v9 VBR at low quality which results in a 70kbps recording at around 2 minutes per megabyte.  The result sounds really good to my ears and is comparable to MP3 at 128kbps.  My source is mostly opera and classical music.

Solved my problem, you simply Drag one album back into the original
and it'll sort the tracks back to the correct details.

Thats something I like.

However having spent last week installing the beta I'm not too happy about
having had to reinstall the full thing again today. Hopefully it'll be a lot more stable anyway.
