I can't see them making a version of the card with a single slot cooler that'll be any quieter than the 2 slot hoover that it currently uses!  It also uses 75 watts of power!  In comparison, the Radion 9700 uses 54 watts.

You gotta draw the line sometime on these rediculous noise and heat problems.....

But there is a pic of one with a single fan and inside a shuttle on these very forums

It looked like it had similiar fan arrangement to current cards so it wont be very much noisier

Guys: I have been a top fan of the entire Gforce family, but hey, having read some of the bench marks on the GF5800Ultra, I am just praying that the tecchannel have got either an early degraded sample, or Nvidia is in trouble.

I cannot read German, but just look at the graphs, and they show a positive future for Ati.

http://www.tecchannel.de/hardware/1109/

I hope that Nvidia are not pinning speed increases through their drivers. Where's the so called 25000 3dmarks? Maybe it's time to change to the Ati RV350. Cos it looks like Nvidia has taken things for granted, just like 3Dfx did.!

Sorry it's off SFF topic, but just my 2pence worth anyhow.

I think ATI wins this round...  i've got a Gforce 4 ti4600 and cant see myself buying a gforce FX any time soon considering the tiny increase in speed but huge power requirements and huge amounts heat requiring a rediculusly noisy cooler,  it's a fact that the more power a chip uses, the more heat is generated, and the bigger/noisyer cooler will be needed.   Shame, i've been a fan of Nvidia up to this point,  but i'd be tempted by the Radion 9700 Pro, and i've been told ATI are releasing an even faster 9700 card any day...

I wanted to get a GeForceFX for my little shuttle but now it doesn't look like its gonna happen, I can't justify getting this new MONSTER of a card if it only performs only a little better than my current Rad9700. Looks like I have to have for the GeForceFX2

Happy fragging

I agree with the last few posts. Imagine, ATi release their new power horse, and cheaper than the expected Geforce FX, man they will have a winner. I currently have a Ti4400, it's a great card, but I want really fast card to utilise some of the DX9 games coming our way soon. I hate to admit it, but I think it's gonna have a Ati badge on it.

What most people already know is that the NV35 that is due Q3 will typically be a speed bump. So not even new features. It's looking grim for Nv.

I read that the ATI R350 is due out not long after GeforceFX, will be 10% faster, but still cheaper cos of the similarities with the Radeon 9700. Looks like the tide might be about to turn....

from anandtech "By reducing the core and memory clocks, NVIDIA's board partners should be able to produce regular 5800 solutions in a single-slot design"  yea, but any slower and theyre not going to be faster than the radien 9700 are they?!

Not likely, but at least you can overclock it then, eh?  Of course, it might melt.

The other problem I see from Anandtech article is that they were not able to overclock it very well.  nVidia has already overclocked it to death simply to get it to beat the 9700.  If the NV35 is only going to be a speed bump, then it looks like all you GeForce fanboys had better wait for the NV40.

9700 pro/9700 is still faster then GF-FX u only have to check out the non cpu limiting benchmarks Ie the 4X FSAA/AA benchmarks its still alot faster.

Already ordered off my 9700 pro @ £221 + free delivery tonight GF-FX will not be cheaper then that.

Irony is Nvidia said "Are u ready" and 7 months LATE they come out with the biggest joke of 2003.

Considering that the R350 will be out in a few weeks and not have the huge hsf the GFX does and at a better price, GFX isnt looking very good at this point,CC
