Although we continue to slightly perform higher than Asusboards (despite having less processors), it looks like they are doing what they can to up their membership. I checked out their site today and the first news post was:

<< I know many of you have heard our plea before, and I apologize for the constant stream of requests....but we need EVERYONE helping us for our Folding team. Not only does Folding help scientists discover cures for diseases like Alzheimer's, but it can help increase the visability of Asusboards. Our team's name shooting up the charts has caught the eyes of many people all around the Internet. >>

<< We are currently locked in a close race with several high-power teams, such as MaximumPC, Sudhian Media, and the Overclockers Forum. We desperately need as much Folding power as possible. Please note that the folding program can run INVISIBLE on almost any machine, and will not take up active resources while you are playing games or using the computer. >>

In the last week our teams active processors has really jumped up quite a bit which has been great to help fend off this team, however what things can we do to further help recruitment to the team? I can't complain on how things are going so far, as we are the second hottest folding team around (with MaxiumPC being 1) but how can we take it to the next level?

He he - that battles been going on a long time hasn't it. A bit like my personal battle with astrobee who is set to oevertake me any moment now unless my new machines start turing in quickly!!

However long it's been there explrsport, it's still a valid reponse by Jasper.

Its difficult to think of ways to encourage people but i've just been mentioning it during normal conversations and am getting people interested. We must keep talking about it and promoting amongst friends.

I also think a more prominent banner on the front pages of the forums might help though.

Another way we can be helped is if more systems administrators get into it and use their network's computers for folding.  I am the LAN administrator for a small company and I just started folding withing the last month, so I am gradually getting more systems on the company network folding as I have time to configure them.  Some systems I can't use, such as our domain controllers, because of the (very) slight risk of hardware failure, but there are a lot of systems on networks that are just sitting there doing nothing and could be used to fold!  I'm doing my part, anyone else out there have admin access to a network?  Get folding!

Ah my mistake. I just visited their page and saw it as the top post...figured it was fairly recent. Perhaps they do not update that section very often then,

It wouldn't be a bad idea to put a "sticky" post on the top of this forum, with a call to arms, plus other helpful folding advice.

Front page exposure would be the best obviously, as an idea though have we though of asking any of the FAH guys to come to the SFFTech event and promote folding on a whole there?

edit: They wouldn't be far away as Stanford is about a 30 minute drive or so from Santa Clara

Hi, Ackatack!

I'll definitely be there!  Unfortunately, I can't actually transport my folding farm(s) there, but I'll do my best to try to convince others to join the team!

Have Fun!

Hi MarkF,
I was just thinking that it would be great if you did a short (3-5 min) video of your MMFF with narration of all the salient details and then popped it onto your laptop and brought it along to the SFF meeting.
That would be an amazing sales tool for the sudhian folding team.  You practically wouldn't have to do anything other than close it with a caption along the lines of, "Sudhian folding team wants you."
I also think a more detailed presentation of the farm with lots of pictures, diagrams, and details re design decisions, etc. would be very cool not only for existing folding team members but for
inspiring new folks as well.
I certainly have found the process of your putting together the farm very interesting.  The WOW factor of seeing pictures of it was pretty incredible.  I've looked at as many shots of computer farms as I could chase down on the net.  Your's is by far and a way the most impressive looking one I've seen to date.
Can't wait to see the stats start rolling in now that it is cooking.
Now of course I realize that you've got a life, a job, other interests, and of course you need to sleep once in awhile.  Still...  it would be cool.

Hi, RogSmart!

Welcome to the forum!  My hats off to you for joining to post such a wonderful note - thank you, sir!  I love your idea!  As you say, time will be an interesting challenge, but I will see if I can't come up with something more compelling than the few shots I've taken so far.  I've never done any digital video editing before, but it would certainly be cool if I could learn quickly.

As far as the stats go, things won't change for another week or so, since I've temporarily relocated six motherboards from my original, small folding farm from home to the MMFF.   With another six motherboards on the way that'll be using Athlon 2400+ CPUs, the stats ought to get very interesting indeed!

Thanks again for the great post!

Cheers!
