The SFF area is growing everyday as the movement gathers more and more momentum.  I have casually been eagerly been following the Shuttle SFF's for awhile now, but have given up on them releasing a system that is quiet.  Some report it is quiet to them, but far too many post the opposite.

I am looking to build two system that will be in my living room and hooked up to apple displays.  These are in the main room in my house, so they need to look good, and the qube style has the most appeal to me, although I that is not set in stone.  I follow mini-itx.com for interesting solutions, but find the systems just a little too slow for my tastes.  The two biggest reasons for me buying these is style (silver or aluminum prefered) and silence (or close to it anyway).

Is there any recommendations?  Who is happy with a system that would be a good fit for my home too?

Thanks the education!

Mini-iTX stuff can be silent (EPIA500/2688 or EPIA-M6000 & 2699) - but can be a little underpowered for some tasks.
If you need more power then currently, the SHuttle XPC's are the quietest SFF PC's around. They are certainly quieter than your average PC - but not silent & you'll never make one silent. You can make them whisper quiet - see this thread for more info.

You'd best decide what exactly you want to do with your machines & this should either steer you to a mini-iTX or Shuttel solution....

Hope this helps.

does it have to be small? is m-atx size alright? Anyway, if you are willing to do some modding then the shuttles are great, although many other companies are coming up with their solutions, e.g Asus, etc... so you may wanna wait a little longer (also to see what shuttle has up its sleeves =P)

Forgot to mention something, guess I was a little tired when posting.  I was going to mention that I am not going to be able to mod anything.  If it involves cutting, I'll lose my fingers.  If it involves rewiring, I'll burn my house down when I fry my self to a burnt crisp.  I've put together countless pc's without any problems, but I am cursed when it comes to doing anything beyond that.

I was thinking of buying my first small ff machine! I want it to be silent too so was thinking of getting a low spec processor that dosent produce too much heat like a duron 1.3Ghz or something and using a passive cooler such as the zalman flower. I doubt it would fit into a shuttle though.

Can a Alpha cooler be fit into a shuttle when there is no 5.25inch drive installed?
