Hi, Sudhian Folding Team!

Is everybody ready?  It's that time again - time to select one of our folding team members as our winner for the week, in the second [quasi-weekly] Sudhian Folding Contest!  But, to quote our own IceBiker quoting Lazurus Long as penned by Robert Heinlein: "Certainly, the game is rigged!"   In fact, the deck is stacked against you if you've got a ton of horsepower and have been folding for awhile.  However, for folks that are new to the game, the chances are much higher that you'll win!

The way it works is this: your "contest score" is determined by dividing 1,000,000 by the actual number of points that you've accumulated.  After summing up all the contest scores, a random number is chosen between 1 and that sum.   By then matching the random number against a running total of the contest scores (sorted in ascending order), we can then determine who has won!  This process gives a distribution that is inversely proportional to your F@H points.  This week, the chance of our top points generator winning is a miniscule 0.004%, while our lowest-scoring active member has a whopping 26.44% chance of winning!

So, what's the prize already?  The lucky winner gets a free SN41G2 system, with an Athlon XP 2400+ processor, 512MB DDR400 RAM, and a 60GB HDD!  Well, almost.  Actually, the winner receives the Folding@Home points generated by this system over the next week - these points will automatically be deposited into your own personal folding account!

And our winner is...BackAgainBaby!  Tah-Dah!

sheesh!!  I need to read things completely I guess.. here I was all excited that you were giving away shuttle cubes!  Heck.. I don't want free points... thats like cheating  there is no luck in folding!!(ok maybe some) Its all raw horsepower!  fork over an old PC133 socket A mobo!  that I could use

I would if I could, but I'm afraid that I can't afford to give away systems out of my pocket every week (sorry about the little joke).  So far, none of this is sponsored by anyone other than me, though we will be updating the CPU in this system to a new Barton 2500+ starting with next week's contest, courtesy of Jasper of Sudhian Media!  Still, your question is one I've been wondering about all along: will folks consider this worthwhile, or not?

Let's wait and see what else happens.  Who knows, perhaps we'll be able to convince one of the manufacturers to donate a grand prize that would be given away in a second raffle of all the winners of this contest who've kept folding for say, six months?  That would certainly be cool!  Thanks for the input!

that would certainly bring in the members!  Perhaps it could be like a raffle of sorts..  if all the active folders sent $1  that might be enough to actually do it,  and hell its just $1 your out if you don't win.. plus it puts another machine online for a good cause.
