Greets all.
Just recently got bit by the folding bug. Now even the laptop is not excused from folding. I broke into the top 100 and wanted to thank all the folks who wrote the excellent informative articles that helped me decide that I needed to fold. Plus, what better burn in tool for the OCd XP 1700 system soon to be added to the folding harem?
Also, does anyone know who WarrenFAllen might be known as in this forum? Having a devil of a time trying to catch him... he also seems to have one of the best points/WU ratios out there!
Thanks for the motivation.

Thanks! I should correct that I am now on the first page of the extreme overclocking page... not the stats man (that would mean in the top 40!) I have just received the ABIT MB and the JIUHB 1700 XP chip so I will be putting more processor power to overtaking the next team. Thanks again for the encouragement and your support. tHh

I don't know, but that's probably better than overcooking.

Of course, I plan to OC it! I think that an OC'd 1700+ is #2 on the hexus pifast challenge. This baby should be a bullet since it's going up against the likes of overclocked P4 3.06 and the like. I will probably keep it air cooled, but even air cooled 1700s are up in the teens or twenties on the pifast list. Oh dear me... not only have I been bitten by the folding bug, but now overclocked folding... tHh

Well, it seems I have been bitten as well... I haven't overclocked really since the k6-x days but I need more power and don't have $$$. So... The XP 1700+ in my KT7a-RAID is now running 1.67Ghz I'm trying to see what I can do with my old kt7-RAID now...

you must have a second generation kt7a-raid bobcat.. I don't even think mine is compatible with palomino, let alone XP chips..

Nice OC Bobcat. is that a Tbred core? theHedgehog has one of the new ones that must be the Barton core w/o the extra cache. talk about bang/buck! what kind of cooling are you using Bobcat?

SFFNoob- Actually I think mine is a 1.0a rev. Anyway, none of them are "officially" compatable with XP chips but there are people running 2100+ XPs overclocked to over 2Ghz on some of them Read all about it... Here and Also HereI successfully did the same overclock with both Palomino and T-Bred core 1700+ procs that I have. The results I listed were for the T-bred core one. The Palomino worked and was stable but had higher temps under load that made me a bit uncomfortable so I decided to stick with the "cooler" proc. Cooling is just a simple Speeze ...I lapped the base and used arctic silver though

Well just to speak a little from the Intel world , I have my new P4 3.06HT OC'd to 3.452GHz with a FSB of 600MHz on the standard fan that is inlcuded with the PROC. Not bad...
PS. I run them all... K6-2's, Celeron's, XP's, and P4's. I don't discriminate, they ALL must obey the mightly rule of FOLDING.

very interesting bobcat.. I've never had much luck OC'ing this machine with any chip (axia 900 or 1200 thats in it now) I usually can get it to overclock to a certain point and be completely stable... I'm running 1333mhz now. and thats usually the most I do.. basically because boosting the FSB causes my network card to corrupt data thats transfered to other machines. to me stability is more important, at least with this machine. I read back when the palomino came out that it may or may not work with my board... and that I may have problems booting at times, so I never really considered even trying one in here. I just figured Tbird 1.4 was my limit.

SFFNoob-
I can't overclock the FSB at all. Even going 2Mhz over spawns instability. Higher multipliers seem to work fine though. The only reason I stopped at 1.67Ghz is that 12.5x is the highest multiplier one can do with a chip that has an intact 5th L3 bridge. I'm not sure I have the skillz to cut a bridge on organic packaging without destroying the proc so I'm not going to tackle that mod.
There is an issue with the timing on some things between the KT133 chipset and XP procs that can cause them not to want to boot. According to what I have read though, abit managed to improve those problems in the later BIOSs, but not totally fix it. Mine acts up once in a while but using the "reset" trick always works for me. (power on and if it doesn't come up, hit the reset button and it comes up).

hey bobcat, that is the reason the CPU i am sending never got overclocked. i am not brave enough to attempt that trick. I have closed the L1 bridges after filling the gaps. that was plenty for me. thankfully, i am able to just go upgrade if i want to (I know, spoiled rotten.) since i am not married anymore and no serious gfriend, i seem to have plenty. i would never have gotten away with the FFarm if she were still here.
i have a Soyo KT400 Ultra Platinum that was supposed to be a good OC'er but it just isn't stable enough even under the mildest OC'ing. i am thinking of selling it on eBay like i did my other one. it sold for as much as a new one shipped PLUS shipping. i would then have plenty to get an Asus A7N8X Deluxe. anyone have any experience with this board?

I don't think we could stay on thread topic if our lives depended on it But I think constant digression is a sign of higher intelligence Anyway... What I will be attempting with the 2100+ BlackCat is sending me is to set the multiplier to 17.5x (remapped) on my old KT7-RAID (limited to 100Mhz FSB) to yield 1750Mhz (Roughly 2100+ speed). I may try to "overclock" a bit too just for kicks but I doubt I'll get very far since it's the old Palomino core. I'll be plenty happy if 17.5x100 works Or that old board may just cough it up and spit it out in which case I'll fall back to my plan of putting it in my k7s5a I may also try it in my KT7a-RAID just out of curiosity...but not permanent since the overclocked 1700+ seems to be doing well. I have heard alot of good things about the Asus A7N8X. Many seem to believe it's the best socket A board available. One of my co-workers is getting a shiny new one this week possibly. He's also considering spending lots of $$$ on a complete Falcon NW system instead. But then Falcon NW ships the Asus A7N8X in their AMD systems by default anyway so I guess he's getting one either way. If you wait till he gets his goodies, I can get his take on it.

Wow! $89 sounds like a great deal. Looking forward to hear how it works. I sent off the check today too. I don't usually check my PO box every day but I'll try to watch a bit closer in the next few days since I know it's coming

i just looked at newegg.com. they have some more of the boards if you are interested. it would save you shipping. you do take a chance. i have had a couple boards have to be RMA'd but overall i have saved a bunch of money. they never ask questions if you return it either.
