My new killer machine I just built a brand new P4 3.06 machine based off the new Asus P4C800 Deluxe MB is having major stability problems.  I have XMS3200-C2 memory (2 x 512MB), Audigy 2, Lite-On DVD, Lite-On 52x24x52 CDRW, 200GB WD SE HD, and an ATI AIW-9700 Pro video card.

I noticed in the manual it state thats the part number for the 9700 Pro series should be -30 or later.  Does anyone know if this apply to the AIW series too?  I have one of the first AIW 9700 cards manufactured, I preordered on their website and my version is -01.

I am having major stability problems with this system and I am curious if this could be the cause of it.  My built in FW port on the back of the system does not work either, I plug in my Camcorder it recognizes it, and then I start up my video capture software, it gets about two seconds then disconnects the device.  Happens no matter what program I use.

However, I can plug the camcorder in the back of the Audigy 2 sound card's firewire port and it works great.

I also experience about two to three lock ups every few hours, along with when recording via the ATI MMC software, it almost always locks up.

I did not have a single problem with this card in my other system (Shuttle SB51G).

I am also NOT overclocking but running straight stock 3.06HT speed at this time.

I am trying to determing if it's a fault with the MB or what to RMA (AIW9700??).  I lean towards the MB because of the failed FW port too.

Any assistance?

PS. If I have to RMA the system board, BlackCat you have a little extra time to hide from your Shadow, but rest assured, it will return.

Well shadow, you haven't even passed this cat yet!  Allthough it seems like every time I push the bar up a notch you keep ahead of me by a good margin so I suspect you will still pass me by tomorrow...even without your P4.

Suggestions though:  you might try throwing in a different sound card if you have one.  Audigys still have a few compatability problems I have heard.  It might be fighting over the firewire ports in this case.

I was having troubles with the ATI MMC and FAH playing well together.  Depending on which core it was running at the time, FAH didn't always relinquish CPU cycles to MMC and the result would be crashes or massive amounts of dropped frames in the recording.  I was thinking it was just my box but after hearing other people having troubles and now this...maybe it's a bug in FAH...

Well, I should have been working tonight but couldn't stop myself from tinkering on the box to figure out the problem.

I removed the Audigy completely, bumped the memory timings to 2.5,4,4,4 @ 266, set all BIOS settings to SAFE mode and other various tricks.  All the same result, no firewire and stability problems.

Now my sound for the ATI MMC isn't working to boot anymore.  *sigh*

WIth as many reboots as I have been doing, you might get a day or two more in front.

I guess now is the time for it to happen, since I am going to be going on a business trip next week, I won't miss it too bad while I'm gone, but I sure wish it would be folding instead of on a UPS truck somewhere.

hi all, i have been busy.  my company has been in an acquisition process for 8 months on a line of brands.  they screwed it all up.  they missed the fact that another company had a contract on half of the brands.  we are trying to work something out with them.  hopefully it will be soon.  i think they are almost to the breaking point.

sorry to hear of your problems shadow.  i want to stay ahead of you, but not that way.  how do you tell what version of AIW you have?  i have one i just bought on newegg refurbished.  i haven't had time to play with it yet.  do you have another video card to try out?  i could lend you mine to see if it is the card or the board.  it would suck to RMA the wrong part!
