What I really need right now is a video card.  I need one more to get all the boxen I have now running.  Been looking for an gf4 ti4200 64mb.  I have my eye out for one of the older 4x AGP versions from MSI for cheap since none of my boards support 8x agp anyway.  And extra sound card wouldn't hurt either...I accept nothing less then the TB santa cruz though being a bit of an audiophile  Getting another motherboard would just mean having to buy two more video cards...and memory...and a hard drive...and another case...oh my!    And all this while I'm supposed to be saving up $$$ for my vacation at the end of this month

Oh and BTW...  According to this INFO , we are all seriously mental and require professional help beyond a support group

Bobcat, hey I started reading that article, but I don't think it applies to us because, errr..... well....

Ok, I admit it, I didn't get past the third line because I had to get back to my EMIII stats and check the stats at Overclocking, order more hardware, and of course read Sudhian news.

So to sum it up,  I still don't think we have a problem.

Ahhh, denial  On that note, I decided to create a bit of a satirical thread to "help us all out"

wow, i just sent that to my ex-wife!  she'll get a kick out of that.

no shadow, we don't have a problem.  we are contributing to the betterment of mankind.  honest.  really.  i promise that is why i keep buying parts.

Bobcat, the Asus board has the SoundStorm Sound in it *tempt* *tempt*  i can't find the article i read the other day.  it was talking about how onboard vs PCI card sound and how they much they use CPU.  the Creative Audigy 2 used more than the new nVidia SoundStorm.  of course, the AC97 used a ton of CPU Cycles.  they didn't talk about the Santa Cruz.  that was one reason i got that board is to reduce the usage for sound.  it is also supposed to be good sound.

BTW, what kind of speakers do you use?  oh, and i have a Gainward Ti4200 128MB 8XAGP CRT/DVI/S-Video i am going to sell.  i bought a bunch of old ATI Mach64 cards for my folding machines (6 for $20).  you wouldn't be interested in the other.  i thought i would sell these two cards to help finance my habit...er...disease...er....hobby.  yeah, thats it my hobby.

How well does that Gainward overclock?  On the MSI cards it's as easy as bringing up the display properties, clicking on the MSI clock tab and hitting "auto adjust".  Heck, they should have just labeled the button "overclock" and been done with it  Well, for memory anyway.  You actually have to drag a slider across for the core clock

Oh, and do you still have the s-video to composite TV out adapter for it?  I tend to use TV out alot for some reason

Hi Bobcat, i have never overclocked the card.  i will check it out.  i have an ATI 9700pro in my gaming machine.  No OC'ing needed...yet
i have everything that came with it (i'm anal that way) including the S-Video to RCA cord, DVI to CRT adapter, Driver CD, WinDVD4 CD (all still unopened), manual, and original box.  oh, and i guess the card is in there somewhere.  i'll check out the OC'ing and write back.

i installed Gainward's tool which does include a very easy OC tool.  it has a slider for each (memory and core) and two gauges above to show how far.  i will toy with it for a while and see how far i can keep it stable.  i will need to put a game on there to check it out. i will report back tomorrow.  btw, it is a Ulttra/650-8X TV model Gainward.

OK, you don't have to go to too much trouble.  When it comes to the GF4 cards I like to know about overclocking mostly to use as a guage of stability.  I figure if it can overclock well, then it should run rock solid at stock speeds.  The only game I have that even starts to make the ti4200 sweat is Medal of honor so I don't really NEED to overclock.  Not like it's going to help me fold any faster  Hmmm, that gives me an idea...maybe they could build a FAH core that leverages GPU cycles too!  Hehe  Anyway, I sent you an e-mail to talk price

Update:  The Palomino core 2100+ did NOT work in my old KT7-RAID.  Your results may vary but mine didn't like it.  I kept swapping it out with my t-bird 900 at different multiplier settings and it never booted.  So, the 2100+ is sitting in my k7s5a as stock speeds now.  I'm still going to try a tbred in the old kt7-raid to see what happens but being that my kt7-raid was one of the first off the line, I kinda think it's not going to make the cut...
