Ok I was pretty set on getting the Shuttle 61G mid July but after reading the article on the SFF convention(?) I'm hesitant. Are the new Shuttle XPC designs (based off of the Soldam ones) coming out anytime soon? If so I'll definietely hold out and wait for one of those beauties (about 2 or 3 months from July). Also what company makes a nice FFS barebone? I mean the new Shuttle 61G are nice, but I'd like something nicer. But at the same time I don't want to sacrifice performance especially since I'm planning on overclocking a 2.6 P4 800MHz. So please tell me if I should wait for the new Shuttle cases or get something now.
Oh and I'm especially interested in the Soltek (QBit I think it's called) and the iDEQ from Biostar as an alternative to the Shuttle. Thanks.

As far as performance right now I would go with IDEQ or Shuttle. From the hints I got from Odie, Shuttle has redesigned a few of there cases, and should be out soon. What are you looking for exactly??? Maybe we could be more help.

Thanks for the reply. The main thing I'm looking for is how soon will these new redesigned Shuttle cases be out? I want the new rig by mid July so I can play FS2004, but I can hold off on a month or two, and maybe three if the new designs will come out in two or three months from July. If that's not possible I was looking for other possible suggestions. But it looks like the iDEQ is a good machine with good design so I probably will settle on that. I think I'll hold off on more reviews to see how well it squares off against the Shuttle. But what I REALLY want is the newly designed Shuttles that was in the article (I LOVE Soldam cases! But too expensive, and the Polo R Figaro doesn't have the 865 chipset that I need/want). So basically ETA on the newly designed Shuttle cases is what I'm looking for. Thanks for all the help.

I am holding out for a system for DOOM 3 and Half life 2 my self. I can't answer if shuttle's new system will be out in time or not, because I don't work at shuttle. However Odie does. He has been very helpful in the past. Maybe if you ask him he might have an answer. From the way he was talking you might be in luck.
P.S. the Polo R Figaro is one damn nice case, great minds think alike

Hey, I'm also rather fond of that Soldam beauty (especially the FAV) model... I emailed Soldam to inquire as to whether a version would be available with an updated motherboard (e.g. FB61), and will let you folks know in due course Take it easy, James

I haven't heard anything about those soldam thingies since Shuttle announced that it was co-operating with Soldam... Don't expect them anytime soon is what I'm thinking....
You could wait around till when you need the machine since it doesn't hurt to wait when you don't need it right? =P Even if the new Shuttle-Soldam cases aren't around, the other shuttle barebones will be cheaper as the 61G gets into greater quantities...

Almost a month ago, a Chyang Fun comercial told me that a: "System based on 865 chipset will be out in 2 months" so if you liked the CF968 this will be one great looking very performant system...

yeah, that's what I heard too. Suppose the 865 chipset box should be out by now. I send an email over to AMS, and got a replay from one of the rep saying the new gBox is coming out July and is going to be based on a new design. Wouldn't tell me what kind of new design though.......... can't wait

That's a real shame about the Polo R. That thing is just reasonable pricing and US availability from hanging with the XPCs in terms of popularity. It is extremely elegant (most elegant PC ever, IMO, finally surpassing the G4 Cube) and is well-built enough to warrant a loooong lifetime. I wonder if heat was an issue with giving it 865 support; it is a very tiny case, and has no ICE cooling or anything really innovative to cool that extremely small space down.

I'm temtped to ask for more details, but there's absolutely no way that'll ever happen, so until an official announcement, three cheers for Soldam and Shuttle! I just hope the (new?) design is as elegant (and compact) as the Polo Figaro R Take it easy, James

I agree, It sort of feels like waiting for X-Mas. You are not sure what you are going to get but are pretty sure you are going to like it. Does anybody else feel teased by Odie's comment???

I for one don't care for it to be more compact than shuttle already is. I'd like to be able to use faster CPU, faster 10k new drives with at least 9800pro video card have better PSU and not have any HEAT issues. How is going to smaller case will help that? Therer is a reason probably that case you mention is not avalable with newer motherboards---its impossible to cool newer chipsets , faster CPU's , memory , video and PSU's in that dinky little case.

It's not just the fact that it is compact. I also desire the Polo Figaro R FAV for it's impeccably stylish looks! It's arguably the best looking PC case ever made in my opinion - and the fact that it has a tiny Shuttle motherboard inside just adds to the package I understand where you're coming from regarding the heat issue though...however, my intended system will not be absolutely top-of-the range; a 120gb Barracuda 7200.7 HD, Passively cooled Radeon 9600, 2.4ghz PIV, and some dual-DDR is all I'll need for a while I could put this system together easily in the existing Polo Figaro, however the FB51 motherboard isn't quite cutting-edge, which is what I'm after, given the money I shall be spending on it! Take it easy, James

Soon...ok I'm gonna wait then. But if I have to wait till around September when R420 is supposed to come out I'm definietely going to shoot myself. I bought a 9800 to put it into my new comp which I'm supposed to build mid July...Since I probably won't upgrade for an another 3 years I'll wait..thanks for the info guys.

Man, those gBox dealies look nice. It's a shame that not only are they based on outdated chipsets, but there is also no indication on their site that this is going to change.
I was really hoping for a Canterwood SFF though.

This may belong in the mods forum, but I've seen some pictures of shuttles that have been modded to the point where they approach the appearance of the soldams, or perhaps, in the eyes of the creator of the mod, surpass them. I dont have a shuttle, but I'm a hardcore tinkerer and I love the appearance of the Polo R. If I could figure out how to duplicate the finish and appearance of the Polo R, I would make my own version of something similar if not identical. After all personalizing something is just that - making it so that it's perfect for YOU. In terms of surface finish, I've been reading a lot about painting cases and what's involved and which materials to use. It is a lot of work. Of course an entire custom project like that would be a lot of hard work and possibly frustration, so then again, maybe waiting months for a something better to come along down the retail pipe is the path to go

Hey folks!
All 'Polo Figaro R' fans rejoice! I recieved this in an email earlier...
And there is some news about the upgrade of this model. We are not to able to tell you the details at this moment, but there might be the FB61 version of Polo R FAV coming out in the next few weeks. But the release of the model is 100% guaranteed. However, you may want to wait a little if you are not in hurry at all.
Power to the people man! Take it easy, James
