I have:
Xbox
GBC
GBA-SP
SegaMega
PS1

Sadly to say, I use my xbox most to watch DVD movies...
The SegaMega is now in the closet.
The PS1 I just found in a garbage bin.

Right now I'm looking forward to getting a GamePark.

My favorate console is my Saturn.  Damn that had a lot of awesome games.  I have nearly all the Working Designs games they released for Saturn.  Damn those games are great.  And with other greats like Blazing Heros (basically the same as FF Tactics only came out like 2 years before FF Tactics did!!!) and Panzer Dragoon how can you not love that system!

In order of what is used:
PS2
Dreamcast
Saturn
SNES

I have but don't use or use much:
NES
Vectrex
Pong thingy with two knobs to control the pong sticks and like 4 different types of play pong

o, and Sega MegaDrive is a Sega Genesis in the US.

Your a good man Mrblob9000!!!  My favorite console of all time is the Saturn which gave me many hours of fun beyond what PS1 offered at the time. I cant tell you how many hours I played the Sega Rally game and the Panzer Dragoon sereis just to name a few.

Its a console that was beaten into the ground by the supposedly better PS1 even though it had a very good library, far less problems with overheating and lens issues and a controller that was superior for comfort/fighting games,CC

The gamecube/gba sp and the x-box

The family tends to prefer the gamecube (nintendo titles have that charisma)

The ps-2 with 50 game titles was recently sold (money will be invested in a new computer)

The supposed superior graphics of the PS1 at the time, I didn't see them.  Looked pretty much the same to me.  Such a great library of games.  Sega needs to tap back into those series that were great on the Saturn.

Are you kiding me, that control is superior for nearly any type of game!  That controler was so comfterble!  I really like having six buttons plus left and right.  I don't like L1 and L2 and what not on the PS controllers.  they aren't useful.  Ther is no game that having two is better than having six buttons and one left and right (that I have played at least).

I have an Xbox, GameCube and GameBoy Advanced.  The Xbox gets the most (by far) of the little playtime that I devote to my consoles.

Xbox has converted alot pf pc gamers both online and off with its abilities and offerings. The borderline pc gamer whos tired of upgrading ,patches and driver issues, sees Xbox as a great option.

Many high end pc users have been talking about the fact that they believe Xbox and its descendants will eventually replace the pc for high end interactive titles,CC

Colecovision
Nintendo
TurboGraphix 16
Snes
Genesis with Sega CD addon.

I have currently put everything into storage...my wife is bugging me to get rid of some of my "junk" including 2 of my Commodore 64 computers with 2 1540 floppy drives.

Consoles have no advatage for console games. You can get a gamepad (many really cool gamepads are only available on PC, like logitech gamepad extreme) and you can play online. The only major problem is that there is no fighting games that are made for the PC. They are now all on console, and frankly, i think that they all suck. They are all repiditive and offer lackluster gameplay... mainly just mindlessley pushing buttons. They are the exact same (gameplay wise) as the old 2D fighters on SNES. Its as if there was some black hole that sucked all the creativity out of the developers creating fighting games. The repition has now made modern fighting games borring, dull, and pointless.

The best fighting game ever was One Must fall, a PC exclusive. OMF will give you much more enjoyment than any of the crap thats available on console, and has many RPG elements, something which is desperatly needed in the fighting genre but somehow always overlooked by developers.

Also OMF battlegrounds (another PC exclusive), is comming out in december, and will obliterate any fighting game on the market if it stays true to the original.

strong opinion there!

"They are the exact same as the old 2D fighters on SNES."

yes, and it sold then, and sells now...so who cares?  not devs.

"has many RPG elements, somthing which is desperatly needed int he fighting genre but somehow always overliiked by developers."

i disagree, take a good long hard play of soul caliber either 1 or 2, both offer weopons to use, all of which have pro's and con's.  that makes up a fighting game wich requires accuracy, paitents and stratigy.

ok, but thats about the least of an RPG element you can get. Can you customize streantgh, endurance, speed, special moves, character appearance?

I tell you, if you strapped all of these onto a soul caliber game it would dominate the entire market. Why cant devs see this though?

I have an assortment of GBAs, N64s, Dreamcasts, PS1, PS2s and GameCubes, as well as some older stuff.

I bought the units for my kids, but rarely use them myself, since I'm more of a PC gaming guy.

My kids use the GBAs more than anything else, due to their portability.

The spirit of the fighting genre is not in the customazation of characters that are superior to others, but a level playing field where skill and quick reflexes reins.

Not to say that this type of game wouldnt sell well, as some people would pick it up and enjoy it.

However, a game such as Soul Calibur 2 thrives by the people who dedicate themselves to building their own skill, and not their character's.

Now then, onto this topic.

I've got these systems : SNES, GB, GBC, N64, Ps1, GameCube, PS2
In order of receiving too I believe, maybe the 64 and GBC are outta place, my memory is a little fuzzy.

Which is exactly why I don't even bother.  My hand/eye coordination is terrible.  I always end up getting the crap kicked out of me in those kinds of games.

I own an Xbox.  First console I've owned since the Atari 2600.

Well I stil do not "own" a console technically.  The PS2 belongs to my 10 year old son and his PS1 is moving into his 12 yr old brother's room.

I have not "owned" or really palyed a console game since I owned a Super Nintendo and Sega Gensis with the cd player.

I may get back into them to spend more time with my boys, but to be honest I never thoguht console games where that great.  Better graphics and sounds can be had from the computer games to me and the controls are 100 times easy for me.
I am a killing machine with my Notromo N50 and Optical mouse.  Put that cray million button controller in my hand and I can barely move around the screen.

However another point towards the consoles is that I have always been a person to feel I want only 1 computer to do everything.  Lately it is harder to play games on my pretty loaded machine without it coughing on something and then evidentually dying on me and needing a reload.

I would like to maybe get the xbox to have 1 of each, but I know the xbox is just a computer and it kills me to buy one just for gaming.

Dont feel guilty as its all about games. If you want to play the widest variety of content then youll need to own both console/pc.
From what Ive seen so far with so many pc games being ported to Xbox and Doom 3/HL2 on the way Xbox is becoming a viable alternative to pc gaming.
Graphics with Xbox are as good as pc if you use svideo, monitor, trinitron tv or similar and many games support higher reslutions vs the standard tv.
Xbox is also a dx8 device so graphics dont suffer much at all if you have the right display to use.

The only shortcoming is the controller but that depends on how much time the gamer wants to spend getting use to it. It didnt bother me much at all after the first week but the PS2 controller by far is the most comfortable,CC
