The reason I ask is that mine is running in the upper 40's C. at idle, and that seems a bit high.

I'm wondering if I put too much thermal paste on the cpu?  Didn't goop it on, just a thin coating.  But I'm concerned about those temps, so what does yours report?

What's your chip?

40s isn't unusual at all for an Athlon XP.

Chip is xp2700+.  It's been up to 50 under mild stress.  I was under the impression that Athlon XP in the 200N ran cooler than that.  But if you think it's not a problem, I won't worry, just keep an eye on it for a while.

Thanks.

Barton 2500+
44c Idle temp
50c Under load with prime95

Also, I am running cpu at 1.7v and mem at 2.8v to get prime95 to run without any errors.
Other components adding to the heat in the box are aiw 9800pro, 120gb maxtor pata drive & 1GB of mem.

it really depends on how warm or cool you keep your house. Right now I'm idling at 43c overclocked to 2088mhz with 1.75 volt. Load gets to high 50s.

If I run default it high 30s for idle and low 50s for load.
