Current system spec :
Cubid 2688R
ME 6000
Dazzle Capture Card (this runs hot as it has an mpeg2 encoder chip)
Samsung 5400 Spin HDD (max temp 55c)
256meg pc2100 crucial

The case itself seems to run ok using the 40mm fans but is too noisy. I have tried modding to have an 80mm fan which was quiet however HDD temps are not sustainable on hot days.

I have now given up the idea of 2688 being used for PVR purposes (might make a nice web server though ! ) and I'm looking for alternatives.

The case that appeals as replacement is the Venus 668 but I have a couple of questions :

How noisy is the PSU in this case ?

Is it thermally controlled in anyway ?

Would the increased volume of air allow me to remove PSU and use the silent PSU from the Cubid, maybe with a quiet 80 mm fan in the PSU's place ?

For future upgrades would I be able to fill the system i.e. 2hdd 2cd and pvr card off the supplied PSU ?

I'm not familiar with the Venus case, but there may be a concern as to the 60 watt power supply in the Cubid case. It's rather underpowered for what you're running, especially with the Dazzle card.  It's probably running close to it's limit. I'm all for the fanless power supplies, but there are 90 watt versions of the same power supply, which might be a good investment.

How were you modding the Cubid case with a 80mm fan? I'm curious becuase one of my servers runs in a cubid case.

Nothing elegant, just made an 80mm hole with the dremel and mounted the case vertically so heat gets drawn out as it reaches the top.  Works OK and if running the fan full speed I could probably get away with it, as  I say for a webserver it should be fine.
