After using my 200V for a couple of weeks, the Enhance power supply fan became noisy.  It seems that the bearing has failed.  When I contacted Biostar about this, they suggested that I return the complete computer to them.  They asked for a flat $30 fee, plus I have to pay shipping to them.  I replied that I use it at work and it was not practical to return it and asked about the availability of either a replacement fan (it's an odd size, 70mm x 10mm,) or replacement power supply.  I heard nothing from them.

Same thing with messages to Enhance.  No reply.  Nothing.

It seems ridiculous to have to pay about $40 ($30 plus shipping) to Biostar and sit and wait for my computer to be returned, when it would be much easier for me to just to take 15 minutes and replace the power supply.

On their web site, they suggest that you "Contact your reseller for product support...." before contacting them.  Right, just phone Newegg or Zipzoomfly for tech support and see what happens.

My suggestion is to choose another machine, one with better support and parts availability.

mas92264,
Can you email me who told you that in Biostar?  You don't have to pay $30 for PSU since your unit still under warranty. I will follow up on your PSU replacement.

Leo are you a Biostar rep of some sort? It would be great if you were as I've mailed techsupport before and NEVER recieved a reply. Biostar makes a great product but the support is pretty close to awful. If they want to become a force in the U.S. they need to step up to the plate like shuttle has. Shuttles support was god awful as well but they've done wonderfully as of late.

I love my 200N but I'm nervous about anything breaking :/

Leo,

The msg above was first sent to Biostar support Friday afternoon.  I asked them to take a look and let me know if anything is inaccurate.  The reply was, yep, that's the policy.

The email is from "biostar support."  No name.

I'm not so concerned about the $30 plus shipping.  What I was concerned about is the apparent unavailability of a replacement ps (more about this later.)  Also, I am concerned about what I perceived as a snotty attitude on Biostar's part in the back and forth email's about this issue.

So last nite, I get a reply frm Bisotar "tech support" that the ideq ps is indeed available, along with some other stuff, under "customer service."  $50 delivered.  No mention of of sales tax for deliveries to CA (that's me, GO ARNOLD!)  Oh, you can get it overnight for $70!

Problem is, they don't take credit cards.  Gotta send mo or "cashiers check."  So, let's say you live in Ohio.  Go to the post office or bank, stand in line, buy mo, mail to Biostar in CA, then go home and watch tv.  Minimum turn around (ground shipping) would be, what, 6 working days, 7?  Get real.

Ok, a little repetition.  It's silly for me to disassemble my ideq, box it up, take it to ups, stand in line, pay $10 (guess) for shipping and then wait for the thing to be returned so that I can put it all back together again because a $3 fan pooped out.

Get a Shuttle.  Power supplies and other stuff are available on their web site, at reasonable prices, and, they accept credit cards.  And, in my opinion, Biostar should get a better attitude.

Leo, I'm very glad to have a Biostar rep in this forum. Without your presence stories like mas's would have led me to belive that Biostar just isn't ready for the US market yet, and I wouldn't consider buying their products.

Good luck, we are very demanding users and your job isn't going to be easy.

Is the noise constant?

Re:  Constant noise.

It's more noticable when I first fire it up in the a.m.  But, the noise is there all the time.   Took the ps apart and spun the fan with my finger - it's obvious the bearing is shot.

I'm primarily concerned that it'll quit entierly and burn up the ps.

After a couple of days searching, I found a 70x10 fan without having to fly to China or Taiwan.  Got it now and will probably put it in this weekend.  Would have just bot another ps, but they're too much of a pita to get frm bstar.

Could help others in the future..

Got it at www.coolerstar.com.  $5.50.  Place in NJ.  Also got a 70mm fan grill!  Actually, the fan I got is about 4,600 rpm and the one in the ps is, just guessing here, about 2,000.  The fan in the ps has a label and part number, Colorful Industrial, and I don't have the part # here - it's at the office.  Couldn't find the mfg on the web.

So, probably tomorrow, I'll run down to R Shack and and get a handfull of resistors and get the fan speed down closer to 2,000.  I'm planning on cutting out the stamped-in intake grill on the ps and replacing it with the 70mm grill.  Would be nice to get a little more air flow thru the case.

BTW, I usually order fans and a lot of other stuff from www.plycon.com.  Reasonable prices, reasonable fedex shipping and they nearly always ship the same day of order.

Couldn't get the link thing to work right, so gave up and just posted the address.
