I just ordered it.  I won't find out 'till I get it.  I chose the free "FedEx Super Saver" as my shipping option.  I'll get back to you guys when I receive it.  I don't have a digital camera so I'll have to try to get to one of my friends to borrow one.

@ DesertMouse, judging by the pics, I would say without.

@Juno017, looks like you are gonna have a nice system there.

Let me know if you find the EQ3702 for sale, I am kinda a AMD fan-boy.

Huh?  There is only one pic of the EQ3401A.  The pic. is only of the EQ3401A itself.   Others who got the EQ3401M from Newegg did get the bag.

I understand that Juno17, and if you look at the pics of the 3401m it shows the bag, the pics of the 3401a do not.

The pictures at Newegg of the EQ3401M don't show a bag anywhere, but people who have ordered that model from Newegg have received a bag with it.  As for the EQ3401A, Newegg only has one shot of it by itself.

Edit:

Never mind.  I just now checked again and suddenly Newegg has more shots of the EQ3401A... sadly no sight of the bag!!!

Well, but actually the reason I asked was that neither the A or M pics showed a bag, and I knew that the M had been coming witha bag, so I wondered what no bag in the pics meant. That, and the lack of an accessories shot  for the A leaves me really unclear.

i think there will be a good chance that you get a bag as Soltek say that the bags will be available for the first three months....

Dont think they have been out for three months

I hope it does come with a bag.  They were supposedly released around the end of July, but did not show up in any resellers here in the US 'till August.

Also, this thread:
http://forums.sudhian.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=42975

shows his bag on top of the "regular" box (the one pictured on Newegg with the EQ3401M).  I have seen other pictures of the box where the box looks longer and has pictures of the bag on it.

Oh yeah, maxitup, do you think a 10 inch IDE cable is long enough to reach from the topmost drive bay to the IDE connector on the motherboard (taking into account other objects that might get in the way)?

My EQ3401a did not have the bag in the box but came in another box taped to the top, this was from a UK supplier, but cant see why the same could not happen out there

So dont give up yet

Hey maxitup, do you think a 10 inch IDE cable is long enough to reach from the topmost drive bay to the IDE connector on the motherboard?  Also, did you run into trouble (like ansalmo did) using a SATA cable with straight connector on both ends rather than using one with a right angled connector on one end and a straight connector on the other end?  Thanks again!

Not using an SATA HD as this machine is only running as an HTPC as with the 10" cable I think it could be close due to the IDE sockets sitting under the HD/Optical Cage and having to route them, but dont quote me on this

Juno14,

congratulations -- know you've been thinking about this for a while.

a few questions just to understand your choice of components:

2.4Ghz PIV
1GB of DDR333 (PC2700) Kingston HyperX RAM
-- I read this to mean you got an older 2.4GHz not the 2.4C ("Northwood")
-- so you're not going for 200 MHz FSB
-- that seems surprising given how high-performance everything else is -- particularly the SATA drive and the DVD burner
-- what made you decide on slower bus speed for CPU and memory?
Seagate Barracuda V - 80GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive (ST380023AS)
PowerColor Radeon 9600 Pro. w/ 256MB DDR
Sony DRU510A DVD-/+R / RW Burner (8MB buffer)
Samsung SM-352 CDRW/DVD Combo Drive (8MB buffer)

Viewsonic G71f+SB 17inch CRT Monitor
-- in a serious $ system like this, I would have gone for an LCD
-- but that may just be my eyes, not my head talking
-- and also my cramped desk
-- what made you go CRT?

Logitech MX Duo (Wireless keyboard & Mouse combo)

Look forward to hearing how it all goes putting it together and making it run.

Enjoy.

No, I got the P4 2.4GHz with the 800MHz FSB.  The memory, well I just couldn't afford something faster.  I won't be overclocking (I've actually never overclocked before because my friends keep telling me that I'll fry my CPU...  ).  I just want to run everything at stock speeds.  I would've chosen a LCD over a CRT because I too need all the desk space I can get, but it's the money thing again.  I was seriously looking at a Sony 15 or 17 inch LCD (SDM-HS53 or 73).  Thanks docbob!  I'll make sure to keep all of you guys updated and as soon as I find a digital camera from one of my friends, I'll post up some pics.

Edit:

I know it probably doesn't exist, but if anyone has seen a good / high quality LCD monitor  - 15 to 17 inches - under $300.00 USD, please let me know.  Thanks.

Maybe not, depending on what qualities you seek.  I have been looking at the Samsung 152T discussed, for example, at Tom's and   here for $322 with no bad pixels.  I started at the sub-$300 mark, but this is the closest I have found for a maybe-acceptable candidate for me at this point.

So on a related note, has anyone found the Soltek Dual Bay Bags here in the US?  I didn't get one with my EQ3701, and I wouldn't mind picking one up if the price is right.

Juno017,

Thanks. We all hit the wall on $ at some point, eh. Always interests me the choices people make.

I also always run stock speeds -- IMO the few extra percent in performance isn't worth the potential  inconveniences and risks of OC.

Do you plan to run the CPU at 200 MHz and step down the memory bus

     200:166 = 6:5 -- is that a possible BIOS setting?
     5:4 = 208:166 -- that's a setting I've heard of and would probably go for the 4% OC
200:160 = 5:4 -- can the memory run at a non-standard rate (never seen that mentioned here)

Side note -- since you are also a "stock speeder" -- I am now running my 2.4C at 200 MHz and 1.3 V (_under_voltage -- as discussed in another thread) -- with routine use (surfing, WP, etc) my Shuttle SB61G2 now runs _under_ 30C with the ICE fan at 5% courtesy of Speedfan -- I consider that pretty comfortable for temp and noise.

If NewEgg and FedEx are on schedule you should be seeing equipment tomorrow (unless you live pretty far West and have it already )

Cheers.

Well, I got the EQ3401A today.  That was pretty d@mn fast for "FedEx Super Saver" shipping.  I ordered it on Monday.  I should have the other parts by next Monday.

I am planning on running the CPU at 200MHz and keeping the memory bus and voltage where ever they are when I first start-up the thing.  However, I do plan on messing with the memory speed and voltage at some point to see how far I can overclock this thing.  I'll give updates when I do so (unless someone else does it before I do, which is probably what's gonna happen).

Edit:

The EQ3401A does come with a bag!!!

Edit 2:

I just went over the whole case cover and noticed that on the top there is a small "ding".  It looks like someone took a flat-head screwdriver and kinda jammed it into the underside of the top of the case cover, so there is a small bump on the top - outside of the case cover.  I know it doesn't do anything to affect the function of the EQ3401, but I'm really picky about these things.

Mine looks the same Juno.  There's no actual raised "ding", but the finish is such that there looks like there is.  Doesn't matter to me as there's an XP4 stacked on top of it

Hey Ansalmo, I went ahead and took your warning about the right angled SATA cable issue to heart.  I just ordered one of these:

How come you dont have anything else to say about the Soltek?  You were here for a full month asking all kinds of questions and not getting any answers for some of htem , had to repeat them over and over and over again.  What is there at least another 16 Juno's  like you want  to know about this Soltek as much as possible and what do you give them, buddy, nothing?
I remember when people were getting their new Shuttles they would come a nd talk about it  but all the dudes that got Solteks after initial  posts "I got it!' just vanish.  Weird.

Hey, I don't have all my parts yet so I can't say much else about it.  Plus, I had to sell my laptop to get this thing and the parts for it.  I won't have a computer to use again until I get this thing assembled.  I have to go to the school computer lab if I want access to a computer.
