Question... Did you cut your shroud out of one large piece of foam? And if so, where did you get the foam? I'd be interested in doing this, but am not sure where to get materials. Thanks.

The grey foam pictured is the type that comes in a hard drive shipping box (stiff foam). It is made from two corners that are joined at two corners (it is visible in the first pic). The foam I recommend is the kind of foam that is used to ship computers (the foam Dell uses to pack CPUs). Not the styrofoam used for monitors or those coffee cups. -2hot
Edit: The white foam was obtained from the electronics lab at work. They order large pieces to pack components.

Do you think the foam works better than if the shroud was made out of metal, or cardboard, or some other more dense material?

If I could make one out of metal, I would. I made my adapter out of foam for 3 reasons, I have the material, it requires no special tools, and it was easy to make. Benefits of the foam are: absorbs vibration from the fan and effectively seals the fan to the rear of the case. -2hot

I should mention that the zip ties go over the top and under the radiator (not through the fins), to avoid bending fins. Also you should just zip them until snug, not too tight. This will allow the foam to absorb fan vibration and to keep pressure off the radiator.

Btw, what is the exact part number for that Panaflo M fan? I'm getting conflicting results on dB and cfm figures so I want to be sure.

92mm High 90x25 Panaflo HYDRO WAVE BEARING p/n: FBA09A12H 92mm medium 90x25 Panaflo HYDRO WAVE BEARING p/n: FBA09A12M 92mm low 90x25 Panaflo HYDRO WAVE BEARING p/n: FBA09A12L I bought my fan from www.svc.com Edit: I highly recommend the high speed fan. Use Speedfan to regulate the speed. This way you can slow it down to make it quiet and have the flow if you need it. -2hot

www.svc.com sells it for $11.98 after shipping. These prices for one fan seem kinda high..

The foam I used is like the kind used to pack Laptops. Its the white rigid closed cell foam (very plastic-like).

dejacky, styrofoam would be to brittle. With the vibration of a fan, you may end up with little styrofoam bits all through your box.

I couldn't wait any longer and used 3 zip ties to install in so it directly touches the radiator fin . Noticeably quieter than the stock sunon...but now I think I'm noticing my power supply fan...replacement time . Who wants pics?
