I absolutely adore the sleek balck look of my brand new SB65G2, and I got a coolermaster bezel to stelth the drive and keep the grain going (I tried to shift the logo to no avail ), and I also got a Vantec NXP-305 rheobus, in black aluminium, but it is dull, and does NOT have a grain effect.

Im gonna experiment with it, but I wondered if anyone had any ideas. I think a belt sander could get the effect, but that would strip the black layer off, wouldn't it?

Ive got some clear spray enamel to give a shiny finish also, would this work, or would it look wrong?

Thanks,
George

The black finish on the aluminum is anodized. If you sand the metal for texture and repaint it afterwards, it is likely the finish will not be the same unless the paint is very thin. Plus it won't be anywhere near as durable as an anodized finish. A black sharpy pen (painted in the direction of the grain) might not look bad, although it may rub off easy. I'd probably just leave the rheobus alone...

Do you mean a brushed appearence? I should thing they do it by running some sort of wire brush over over the aluminium to scrape out fine groves. Maybe lightly do it with a fine wirebrush, and then put a vinish on it.
