Hello everybody,
I'm having a problem with my ICE CUBE from FIC.
I'm assembling it with a P4 2.2 FSB 400, 40GB Maxtor, 512 DDR 266 and VGA ATI.
After installing windows, and after installing chipset drivers, i install the VGA Drivers (here i tested several models from ATI and NVIDIA) after restart, when the PC is entering windows, the monitor shuts down and then he restarts windows.
VGA's tested: 9200, 9500, 9700 aiw and Gef4200 and 4800. I need to place a VGA because i don't have the TV-OUt onboard and i need to connect to my TV.
Any Solution?

Not that it helps but I have a Geforce 5200 in mine without any problems, with at least a few different versions of the drivers.

Did you install Windows XP?  Are your temps alright in the bios?  Memory seated properly?

When I had an ATI card and could not get it working properly, ATI had me follow instructions to completely delete all ATI software and registry entries and then I switched to Nvidia; but that was a different computer so I don't really remember.

I would suggest either trying different versions of the software or calling the video card manufacturer as ATI did provide good customer support.  Do you have an alternate stick of RAM to try and see if that helps?

Not sure what else to suggest except a reinstall.  Good luck!

ive tried 3 different ati cards in mine, i still lock up and have never even got to use my cube, ati says the fic mobo is bad. seems funny, onboard vid works fine, always had the damn wdm drivers from ati lockin it up. i still believe its ati with a software/driver conflict

this might help, it did with my VL-61 and VL-67. This is right from ATI's site..

zorbar I understand your aggravation. I have been building pc's for a long long time. This FIC is causing me pain still as well. Last night I actually got it to work......and then it quit. Ill explain here. After the 9th format(to make sure the system is clean) I installed the latest chipset drivers. Reboot. Installed DirectX 9.0b, reboot. Install winrar(need it to see my compressed files) grabbed ati catalyst 4.3 and extracted the WDM, Cpanl, and Drivers folders to desktop. Installed WDM drivers and rebooted(*i know you arent to reboot but i tried it on purpose). Installed Drivers, then Cpanel, then reboot. Pc detected all WDM drivers correctly for once, no lockups. I was gettin excited. I then installed the lan driver, usb driver, intel accel utility, reboot. I then installed UCI(DAO and Media encoder drivers), rebooted. Installed dvd decoder, then installed MultiMediaCenter 8.8 from cd, rebooted. Plugged in the remote wonder 2 receiver and installed drivers and rebooted. Went into BIOS, turned on onboard sound, rebooted. Installed Audio Drivers and the audio rack, rebooted. Turned on tv tuner, it actually asked for me to autoscan channels(i have never gotten that far before) and setup up sound. Awesome the tuner worked, the fm radio worked, everything worked!!!!!!! SO i shut it off and went to bed. Got up this morning, thought ok, now to try the Audigy 2 because the onboard just doesnt have the punch i need. Set a restore point, uninstalled audio drivers and audio rack, went into bios and turned off onboard sound. Put audigy 2 in pc, rebooted. Put cd in drive and installed ONLY the audigy 2 drivers(no extras, control panel etc.) Went and checked the device manager and I'll be damned........ATI Rage Theater Audio, Video, and ATI TV Audio Crossbar all had the yellow exclamation point. Damn, Audigy 2 conflicts with it. So i even updated audigy 2 driver to latest, still no good. Uninstalled the 3 codecs and used add new hardware wizard to detect them and reinstall again. All 3 fail to initialize(which is what it does all the time). So i uninstall Creative drivers, pull sound card. Turn onboard back on, use the restore point I created and the damn WDM's are still yellow exclamated!!!! Even tried deleting and reinstalling them again and again. Im back to square one, I have only the 9th format of XP SP1 in there and tried to put it back just like last night as it was working, and im getting the damn lockups on installing WDM drivers again even on a clean machine. Have no clue as what to do next. I have played email tag with ATI for 2 weeks, they suggest things I have already done, have latest bios, chipset drivers blah blah. The card works, my audigy 2 works, all the hardware is brand new. Im beginning to think the Cube I have doesnt like ati period. I shelled out over $250 for this machine and its still sitting useless. Unfortunately I cant RMA it becuase I dont have the retail box. I cleaned out the backroom(why would you keep a box when you expect something to work dammit!). Suggestions welcomed and appreciated(more than likely I have tried or done it).

That's frustrating all right.  The VG61 doesn't have an ATI problem per se: I've been running one with a Radeon 9000 without problems for a year.

Based on all you've tried, it sounds like yours is DOA. :-(

yep thanks for the reply. As it turns out ATI referred me back to FICA for an RMA. FIC is real cool. They immediately suggested me to RMA it, I have done so, and they have had my cube since last Monday. So I hope to hear from them soon. They could really make me happy and upgrade my board from the I845 to the I865 hehehe )
