Just an update. After almost 1 week of running in this config, all is stable and super quiet. The system has gone from being fairly quiet but not particularly impressive to barely audible, and only in low-frequency, unobtrusive ranges. Also consistently cool. Apparently, none of the OEM fans were really any good. I highly recommend the 4-way Zalman mod. Minimal time, high payback.
----------------------------- Hey all:
Tonight, I added two more Zalman OP-1 to my 200V. Already had done the 2 side panel fans. But I was still annoyed by the PSU fan. I replaced the PSU fan with a Zalman OP-1. I actually put it inside the PSU.
It is a very, very tight fit, but I did it. The secrets are: 1) cutting off the excess 'lips' on the PSU 2) rounding the fan by removing the screw mounts in three corners (the corner near the wire exit and the two opposite, 3) ignoring the fact that the Zalman OP-1 is a few mm thicker than the OEM fan, 4) dremeling the cover, removing the 'grill area' all together and leaving just two thin stubs to hold the whole thing together, 5) replacing the cover and just forcing it to fit.
I also replaced the system exhaust fan with a Zalman OP-1. Tight fit as well, but more reasonable.
Temps are slightly lower, but noise is gone - the PSU fan is the primary contributor.
