My first Apple was home waiting for me yesterday.
Box was heavily damaged (water soaked on one end and ripped at the seams on the other).
Scared the crap out of me. However, when I opened it up the inside box (original iBook box) was completely fine.
So far so good. I checked all the ports (usb, firewire, lan, headphone) and the y work just fine. Threw a dvd in and in works as well. Battery is way weak and only seems to last maybe an hour or less.
That will have to be replaced next as I intend to make this my travel book starting next week (leave for Tucson, Az for a 1 day meeting = pain in ass).
Anyway, updated the firmware. Way easier than updating bios in PC. I installed my 512M ram into it. Noticable performance (apple seems to love lots of ram).
Contemplating running out a nd buying 10.3 today so I can install my new hdd I bought for it (40G 5400 rpm 16M cache to replace exisintg 10G 4200rpm 2 mb cache).
Already been online with it.
The hardest thing I have found so far is that I am completely lost in this OS !!
I did buy a really good book for Panther, which is the other reason I want to hurry up and get it installed.
Tell you what though, from the ease of use and the nice layout of the software...................not sure why I did not go to apple a few years ago.
Oh yeah, its an iBook
