Im getting sick of the noise level from my PSU, and I intend to sort it as soon as I am able (funding wise!)

But should I get a new PC40 250W PSU or, should I keep my 220W PSU and replace the fans? I dont want noise, but Im also worried about heat. My PSU gets rather hot (it can reach 50C very easily!), and surely the PC40 would run hotter.  Or would it be that the PC40 wuld be less stressed and thus run cooler? I just dont know!

I plan to add a 9800Pro to my system eventually (spec in sig). 220W should do the job, shouldn't it?

Im not worried about voiding any warranties! Shuttle dont exactly have a good track record for customer service anyway!

Thanks.

if you have the money, go for the pc40. adding the 9800pro, however, might counter the swap, as the fan is pretty darn loud (might want to mod that... )

Actually i've thought about the same and i think i'll be using 2 adda fans on my stock psu, one inside the the psu(blowing out) and one outside it (blowing in). Then it should be very quiet and still pretty good airflow. I decided to make this mod cause i've heard ppl say the silentX isn't that quiet.

lightprocess - I intend to (semi-)passively cool my 9800Pro. Don't ask me how yet, I just will (Should be a fun project!)

emin - I was worried if I did get the SilentX, that it might still be a little to noisy for me. I'd like my machine as quiet as I can possibly get it!

the silent X is quieter, much more so than the stock PSU, but it will add to the heat in your case.

My Achme PSU (stock) is really quiet, i only want that extreme quietness that adda fans can give (14dB, compared to silentx which is supposed to sound alot more than 14dB)

Hey Guys!

I was thinking of buying a ADDA 120mm fan, with a 80-120mm fan dapter.

The specs for the fan is:
- 16dB
- ~ 38cfm

Anyone tried this fan?, it sound pretty good, it will only produce 16dB at full speed and move about 38cfm, which I think is too god to be true?
