Not everyone is going to spend $500 on a video card, so where are the reviews of the more reasonably priced 6800 Non-Ultra models?

Well that is a good question, but next gen cards always shows the best and brightest in their king of the hill battle. They will be here with time but some of the shine has to come of the most expensive cards.

With the soon to be launched ATI X800 Pro being in direct competition with the GeForce 6800 NU, I thought that Nvidia might try to trump ATI with an early review.

Well the 6800NU will properly be selling more  than the 6800U, so I think Nvidia is a bit afraid or just not ready to show what the 6800nu can do. When they don't really know what ATI can deliver. Because now you just know how the 6800u preformes and it might get people to buy the 6800nu because they think they get near 6800u preformance without any way to know.

Because when you really look at it how many people buy a 500$ gfx card. And when you can get at card with almost the same name at only 300$ which one do most people choose.

And companies seldom show their entire hand when you know the competition is about come out with a similar product.

That's what makes this battle interesting.

ATI seems to be doing the opposite of Nvidia, as they're supposedly saving their big guns for last, and releasing the more popular X800 Pro series first.

Yes they most be pretty confidnet in their product to do something like that. Both the preformance point and the price point will decide how it goes for both Nvidia and ATI.
